The days are getting longer and the Community Garden is gearing up for spring.

All are welcome to join our working party days on Monday mornings. No experience necessary. You may want to come and chat, there is always tea and coffee or you might fancy pulling a few weeds, deadheading spent flowers or growing your own.

Today we have harvested some forced Rhubarb and seen our first flower on the strawberry plants.

A great way to start the week.

We are incredibly grateful to share that £590 was raised in donations at the funeral of Dennis.

These generous contributions will be shared between the Community Garden and the Georgina Ward at Russells Hall Hospital - two causes that meant a great deal to Dennis and his family.

On behalf of everyone involved, thank you so much to everyone who donated and for the kindness and support shown during such a difficult time. It truly means a lot and will make a positive difference in both places.

We’ve been really touched by this message from Alex Ballinger MP about our dad, Dennis.

He poured his heart into the Cradley Library Community Garden and truly believed in the power of bringing people together — through gardening, conversation, and community spirit. Seeing his efforts recognised like this means so much to our family and to everyone who worked alongside him.

Thank you to Alex, and to all those in the community who supported, encouraged, and shared in Dad’s vision over the years. His legacy lives on in the garden, and in the people it continues to bring together 🌱💚

Sarah & Anthony

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dennis Rose.

Dennis founded the Cradley Library Community Garden and gave so much of his time and energy to organising events that brought people together through his love of gardening.

People like Dennis are what make Cradley such a special place, and his loss will be felt by many across the community. My heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thank you, Dennis, for everything you did for Cradley and the wider community.

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the news that Dennis Rose, founder of our garden, passed away peacefully at home this morning surrounded by loved ones.

This garden was Dennis’s pride and joy. What began as his idea grew into a place of community, friendship and purpose, and he was so proud of what it became and of the people who helped make it happen. He worked hard on the garden, sharing the same passion for creating a welcoming space for everyone, and it meant the world to him to see it enjoyed by so many.

As a family, we have seen first-hand the love, time and dedication poured into this garden, and we know how much it meant to Dennis, and how fondly he was thought of by so many of you.

Thank you for the kindness, friendship and support you have shown Dennis over the years. His presence will always be felt here, and his legacy will live on through this garden.

With heartfelt thanks,
Janet, Sarah & Anthony 🌱

✨ A look back at our recent Fundraiser in the Community Garden ✨

What a wonderful day we had – cakes galore 🍰, a busy tombola 🎟️, “Plant a Daff” 🌼, and even children’s activities where little hands created seed pictures 🌱🎨.

There was plenty going on, with tea and coffee keeping everyone warm ☕, laughter filling the garden, and smiles all around.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, supported, baked, helped and donated – your kindness made this event so special. 💛

📸 Here are some photos from the day!

💐 A huge thank you! 💐

Thank you so much to everyone who came along on Saturday to support our joint cancer charity fundraising event with the Friends of the Library. The cakes went down a treat, the tombola was a hit, and our new addition – Plant a Daffodil 🌼 – was warmly received!

We’re also very grateful to those who couldn’t attend but kindly donated.

A special thank you goes to everyone who helped plan, serve, and clear up on the day – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Together, we raised an incredible £200 🎉
• £100 will be donated to Mary Stevens Hospice
• £100 to White House Cancer Support

With heartfelt thanks,
Dennis & Janet
