What a difference a tin of paint makes! In the hallway at the 1960s Wakefield project, we chose a warm colour for the walls to contrast with the cool hues in the lounge and dining room. The muted pink (Little Greene's Mochi) is warm and welcoming, and we painted the front door in Bombolone for a yellow colour pop.

The dining room at my 1960s project in Wakefield. Previously, this was a large open-plan space but we added a stud wall to separate the dining room off from the lounge.

The clients wanted the dining room to become a sociable space where they could host dinner parties, with seating for up to 10. This room also incorporates space for storage and a desk so we zoned off the dining area by wrapping sage green around the walls. We used mid-century shapes as a nod to the era of the house and existing artwork adds character and personality. The existing flooring stayed but we added a large rug under the dining table for softness underfoot.

Hello! I'm starting to feel a bit autumnal this week so I thought I'd share a cosy living room reveal that I designed for some lovely clients in Wakefield last year. It's a 1960s house and previously, this space was part of a large open-plan living-dining-home office. Because the clients wanted a cosy and relaxing area where they could escape to in the evenings, I suggested separating the living area off from the rest of the room. The clients have a lovely collection of artwork which we incorporated and we also kept the existing carpet and footstool. Here's what we did:
🍁 Colour drenched the whole room in Little Greene's Ambleside - a lovely relaxing dark green.
🍁 Introduced warm, autumnal colours as accents.
🍁 Had a bespoke media unit built to house the TV and create lots of storage.
🍁 Used a mix of textures and pattern to add interest.
🍁 Introduced different light sources (ambient, task and mood lighting) for flexibility.
The clients did a great job of implementing the design and this room feels like a completely different space now! I'll be sharing photos of the rest of the ground floor next week. Have a lovely weekend!

Our amazing stay at Son Sabater by Zafiro Boutique Collection ✨ Honestly the loveliest hotel we’ve ever stayed in.

It’s an old 16th-century finca that’s been perfectly restored. The interior design is beautiful and the way the contemporary elements respect the original stone walls and ancient wood beams is just flawless. The bedroom in particular offered a masterclass in layered lighting!

Son Sabater is located in the countryside of Sa Pobla but it’s only about a 10 minute drive to Pollensa 🌿☀️ All of the staff were so helpful and friendly and we’ll definitely be back!

I went to see Claire Murray’s brilliant new art exhibition () at on Saturday - you can see some of my favourites paintings in my stories. And then last night was Billy Ocean at . We’re so lucky to have Dean Clough and The Piece Hall on our doorstep.

Have a good Monday!

An amazing few days in Majorca ☀️
We stayed in Son Sabater by ZAFiRO Hotels and I can’t recommend it highly enough - I’ll share more photos of it separately because it deserves its own post 💙
We hired a car and took a few days trip to Pollensa/Puerto Pollensa, Cala San Vicente and Soller. My favourite place ☺️☀️

A few more pictures of the 1980s house in Halifax. The clients worked with Stonehouse & Co Architectural on this project. They added multiple skylights in the roof to allow natural light to flood the hallway - very welcome in this north facing space. It's made such a massive difference! I suggested tongue and groove panelling and a floral wall mural for a country feel (the mural will be a later addition when budget allows). In the snug, we used brick slips again for a rustic look and wrapped the walls in a dark green - it's such a cosy room now, and the views from here are amazing!

A kitchen design I completed a while ago for a lovely client in Halifax. This was part of a larger project that included knocking walls down and putting walls up to create a utility room and open plan kitchen-dining-living space. It's a 1980s house and there wasn't much character to speak of. The client was really keen on creating a cosy country cottage look with a contemporary feel so we chose a classic shaker style kitchen, incorporated lots of warm wood tones and added brick slips on the back wall. I've used DIY Kitchens on a few recent projects - they're excellent quality and a lot of the styles come in bespoke colours which makes it much easier!

Hi everyone! I’ve finally got round to taking pictures of our bedroom. This was the first room we renovated ten years ago so it was in desperate need of a refresh. It was plain and rather bland before so I wanted to add lots of personality and give it a really warm feel. The arts & crafts style wallpaper on the ceiling is by and it adds loads of personality - such a pretty pattern and perfect for the Edwardian era of our house. We framed it with Arras on the cornice. The walls and woodwork are painted in Masquerade Mid (this room is south facing but it works equally well in a north facing room) and we highlighted the window in Nether Red. This room has so much character now and feels so lovely and warm 😁

Walls and woodwork - Masquerade
Window frame - Nether Red
Cornice - Arras

A bit of a colour refresh for our youngest boy. A few months ago, we were lying in his bed when he looked around and said “I’m sick of looking at white. I lie in bed and look at white, I go in the lounge and look at white, I go in the kitchen and look at white. It’s so boring…” Not a fan of the old neutrals 😳 So we colour drenched the whole room in green. Not a bit of white in sight. He seems much happier now.
