It’s World Naked Gardening Day on 2nd May… Hammerwich Gardening Guild considered embracing the Full Monty Don or Calendula girls ……. but don’t worry, we’re keeping our plants the only things fully exposed.
We’ll be keeping our petals firmly in place, but we’re cheering on anyone brave enough to go au naturel among the nasturtiums.
Whether you’re weeding in wellies or pruning in… prudence… may your plants thrive and your neighbours remain un‑alarmed.
Happy gardening, Hammerwich, Keep it fun, keep it safe, keep it leafy. – clothes optional, sun cream essential.

What an absolutely brilliant night we had.
Our speakers 'The Potty Plotters' were sensational, so witty and knowledgeable. You can catch them on BBC Radio Derby, Sundays 11.30am where they broadcast from their allotments.

This week at the Gardening Guild we have booked guest speakers 'The Potty Plotters',

We will be having a friendly competition of photos of snowdrops members may have grown, bring in a single homegrown Daffodil and the results of our tulip competition where we were given a number of bulbs last year possibly 5 or 10 but this post author is proud of the 1 that grew 🤪

In the March meeting we held our AGM and then had an interesting talk from HGG member Roy on 'NPK' Nitrate, Phosphate and Potassium and how it works with our plants' roots and flowers. We never realised how fascinating Poo is, its link to turnips, cows and Art 😎

Today we celebrate the women who grow, nurture, and inspire — in our gardens, in our community, and across the world.
International Women’s Day is a moment to recognise the creativity, resilience, and leadership of women who shape our green spaces and help our village thrive.
Women have always been at the heart of gardening:
• Sharing knowledge across generations
• Leading community projects
• Protecting local wildlife and biodiversity
• Bringing people together through a love of nature
Their work reminds us that growth — whether in a garden or a community — begins with care, patience, and the belief that small actions can create lasting change.
To all the women who plant, prune, plan, and inspire: thank you.

A big thank you to our speaker, Mark Smith, for a brilliant and inspiring talk on bringing colour into the winter garden.
Mark shared a wonderful mix of plants, shrubs, and clever design ideas that prove winter doesn’t have to be dull. From vibrant stems and evergreen structure to unexpected pops of seasonal interest, he showed us how to keep our gardens lively even in the coldest months.
Our members left full of ideas, plants and seeds ready to brighten up their borders.
It was a great evening of learning, laughter, and gardening inspiration.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting.
