Just a very quick reminder that our next nursery open days are Saturday 4th and Sun 5th July 10.30am to 4.30pm both days. Google doesn't cope very well with our summer hours so the information page says temporarily closed - but don't panic - that's just a case of computer says no! Hope your gardens are coping ok with the heat.

Our regular customers and garden visitors know we like to mix wildflowers in with our more fancy varieties. They are often the perfect answer to wild weather and harsh conditions as they survive pretty much anything Pembrokeshire can throw at them. I was delighted to see how the Fox and Cubs (the very orange flower) has settled in with it's slightly more fancy neighbours.
Do you use wildflowers in your garden?

This is an 'after and before' picture just to give you an idea how quickly a raised bed can fill up. I've just planted one and as you can see it is not much to look at, but give it just two seasons and it will look great. Most of the plants I put in the raised beds are the ones that are not quite good enough to make it to the nursery.
So if you are a gardener in a hurry it really won't take very long to get the 'full' look.
Very happy to answer any questions about the raised beds (planting - me, building - Paul).
I love them - they are so much fun and a lot easier to plant in and care for than the main garden.
Looking forward to your questions!

We are a very small nursery, and we grow every single plant we sell here at Cold Comfort. Although our range isn't huge we do tend to know exactly how our plants will perform, both here in West Wales and further afield. We are always happy to offer practical advice, where we can, about caring for our plants.
If you have visited our garden recently and seen something you like, do please ask us about it. If it's not on our shelves we can very often propagate it for you, or perhaps collect some seeds for you to try. We have a list of things that people are waiting for, and can always add you to it if you are looking for a particular plant that we grow in our garden. We do have a few plants that we really struggle to propagate, but not many.
So please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have seen something you like when visiting. We might just be able to help you!

My garden has definitely crossed the line from Spring to Summer now. It's the moment where you need to cast out an ideal of a relatively organised garden and just go with the flow. The polite way to describe the garden is abundant. And I know it will cross another line into being a bit of a mess as summer continues. But that is just how it is so I might as well enjoy it.
There isn't a lot you can do across the summer apart from a bit of dead heading and tidying with the secateurs as things go over. I do find this is really worth it as chopping back tired plants can give space for new ones to grow or sometimes stimulate fresh new growth or even new flowers. I've just had a really good second flush of flowers on my Lupins. Wandering round the garden with a pair of secateurs is a very peaceful type of gardening too.
I'd love to hear what's doing well in your garden - send a pic if you've got one.

Thankyou to everyone who came to our open garden today. We had SO many visitors which was lovely - but sadly I didn't have time to chat to everyone properly. Lots of new people who had never been to the nursery came. As we are nearing the end of our main season now, I will post our open dates for the end of June, July and August here tomorrow. They are also on the website at www.coldcomfortplants.com.
If you came, we hope you enjoyed it and maybe took some inspiration (and plants) home with you!

This is a lesser seen bit of our garden - a gravel garden that I am still working on. If you haven't visited our garden before, there are several bits that are work in progress, which I think is quite nice because you can see how we got there. This is especially so with the raised beds at the moment. We have one I am just in the process of planting, and three that are now established and full of plants. It is encouraging to see how quickly a bed will fill out and look good.
We are ready to welcome you tomorrow (Weds 10th June) between 11am and 4pm. No need to book, just come along.
Ample parking, onsite WC, sorry no dogs. Garden is on a sloping site with steps. Garden entry is £5 per person for the National Garden Scheme. Refreshments available including light lunches- all homemade.
See you tomorrow.

Come with me up the garden! I'm no photographer, but i hope you get a sense of how beautiful it is right now. Over the years I've learnt the hard way to enjoy it in moment - who knows what punishing wind or flattening rain is waiting in the wings. Hope you enjoy it too! I thought about adding music - but Paul said it sounded as though I was in a lift!!!
