My last exterior of the year, required a lot of work…

The property is a mix of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian. Unfortunately due to life’s circumstances, left far too long between remedial works.

25 pairs of sliding sashes, 4 casement windows, a set of french doors and 3 external doors and frames, all stripped of paint and finished in .

3 complete bay window sill replacements, 3 single sill replacements, 11 sash repairs to bottom rails and stiles, only one complete new sash required, several repairs to the sash boxes, a new set of French doors, kitchen window, rear door threshold, lots of glazing repairs/replacements, 15kg of window putty replaced, repaired sash cords, fascia repairs, all new guttering and lead roof repairs.

Worth the effort, I hope.

A lovely original Georgian window on my current exterior that is finally coming to an end.

I’ve had some help from a carpenter, due to the amount of repair work. But decided to make the time to restore this window from start to finish.

All glass, old putty and paint removed.
A new hardwood sill and box frame repairs.
The bottom sash required a new bottom rail and stile. The ovolo moulding was created using a scratch stock made to match.
The external architrave had been badly replaced using an off the shelf moulding previously so a new one was made by a joiner to match the original.
New cords with original weights. The original pulleys and catch were polished by the customer and look fantastic.
Glass replaced using Brouns and Co linseed putty with original glass and some salvaged historic glass from other cracked panes on the property.

Finished in Cambridge white no.7

Even gutters get a pampering!
Lion motifs gilded in 23.5ct gold leaf, after phosphoric acid, two coats of red oxide primer and two coats of blackout linseed paint, same goes for the guttering, with some bitumen paint thrown in for good measure.
Should last quite a while…
