Awesome day up above Old Town on Saturday, building a rockery in what was previously a very overgrown dumping ground.
We strimmed the nettles, then dug them and lots of pots, pans and buried fences out to get to our rocky, well draining base layer. From here we laid w**d membrane and cardboard, then our soil mix with horticultural grit and sand.
The customer had lots of stone in the garden, so we placed our keystones ready to plant up around them.
We chose a selection of alpines, annuals, perrenials and small shrubs, and positioned them with the warmth of colours in mind, whites at the front, warms in the middle and cooler colours at the back to create a backdrop and depth.
Because we wanted to keep the budget in check, we chose young plants, so it'll be great to watch them fill out and see how the rockery develops over time.
This was such a satisfying project to work on, and the rockery may well just be the beginning in this garden!
