Nymphaea Pigeon Blood

A beautiful free flowering dark dusky pink water lily with bright yellow stamens. It is a heavy bloomer so it needs space to grow and bloom making it suitable for large ponds. The petals contrast beautifully with the bright yellow centre and and dark green coloured pads. The flowers have a pleasant fragrance and are also produced late into the season from June to September. The leaves provide shade across the pond from the sun helping with the prevention of algae. Lily’s are also very beneficial to aquatic wildlife as the pads providing shelter for aquatic wildlife and resting places for visiting insects and pollinators .

GOLD MEDAL! 🥇

So happy to have played a small part in the success of the WaterAid Garden at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Designed by Tom Massey and Je Ahn
Built by Landscape Associates and Water Artisans

Plants by Hortus Loci and Wetland Plants.

The WaterAid garden explores the challenges presented by an ever-changing climate. It focuses on sustainable water management and features a colourful array of plant species designed to deal with varying amounts of rainfall.

The garden uses materials that are reclaimed and repurposed for a lighter carbon footprint. At the centre of the design is a rainwater-harvesting pavilion, inspired by WaterAid’s work with communities around the world to develop sustainable water solutions.

The structure harvests every drop of rainfall, filtering and storing this precious resource for drinking and irrigating while also slowing flow and providing shade.

Nymphaea Paul Harriot

These are wonderful little water lilies with beautiful large flowers which also change over a few days from pink tinged with yellow to a deep pinkish orange. The blooms are cup like in shape with around twenty two petals and reach 4-5 in (10-13 cm) across and are held high above the water. It has a slight fragrance and is also very free flowering.

The leaves are a deep green with large and small purple blotches and mottles. They are oval in shape with an open ‘V’ shape sinus or lobes which partially overlap. The tips of the lobes are round and the leaf measures 15-18 cm (6-7 in).
Spread is 60-120cm (24-48in)
We consider the Paul Harriot water lily to be ideal for tubs and containers and for small or medium pools.
Planting depth above soil level 18-24in (45-60cm)

Tuberosa Richardsonii water lily. (N. Tuberosa ‘Richardsonii’) is a large white water lily. Produces beautiful, snow-white, globular flowers with a yellow centre, unusually early in the season. The blooms have forty six to fifty petals and measure 6-8 in (15-20 cm) across.

The leaves are nearly round with wavy edges and an open sinus. Leaf size is 10-11 in (25-28 cm) with a spread of 72-84 in (180-210 cm).
This is a potential giant, therefore we would only recommend it for large pools, or lakes, as it is very vigorous.
Needs at least 3 feet of water in which to thrive.
