A bit of a special one.

This cloakroom was finished in Edward Bulmer’s Whiting, with the whole room colour drenched — walls, ceiling, woodwork and floor all in the same shade.

It’s a simple idea, but one that works brilliantly in a space like this. Soft, calm and understated, while the panelling, joinery and natural materials do the rest.

The sort of job that only works when the prep and finish are right.

Final part of this flat renovation — and a fitting way to end the series.

The hallway was fully refreshed and this fitted alcove bookcase was taken from bare MDF to a finished feature, helping bring the whole flat together.

This was a challenging property from the outset, with multiple layers of wallpaper, cracks and poor surfaces to deal with, so the transformation didn’t happen by accident. A lot of preparation, problem-solving and hard work went into getting it to this stage.

Really grateful to receive such a brilliant review from the customer too. It means a lot when the effort, care and attention to detail are recognised at the end of a job.

Part 3 of this flat transformation — the kitchen / living space.

Swipe through to see how the room looked before the preparation and decorating began.

All of the old wallpaper had to be stripped first — the grey colour visible in the earlier photos was actually painted wallpaper which had built up over time.

Once removed, the walls revealed plenty of cracks, holes and uneven areas that needed attention before decorating could start. After thorough filling and sanding, the surfaces were stabilised with a primer sealer, followed by a roll-on fine surface filler to create a smoother base ready for paint.

The room was then redecorated using eco paints from Victory Colours, with calm, muted tones chosen by the customer to create a lighter and more relaxed space.

A lot of the real work in decorating happens long before the final coat goes on — but good preparation is always what allows the finish to speak for itself.

Flat Renovation Series – Part 2 | The Main Bedroom

The second room in this recently completed flat renovation — the main bedroom.

Like much of the property, the starting point required extensive preparation before any decorating could begin. Painted-over wallpaper had to be completely stripped back, revealing uneven surfaces, cracks and previous repairs beneath.

Once exposed, the walls were carefully stabilised, filled and fully lined to create a smooth, durable surface ready for decoration.

With the preparation complete, the room was finished in calm, muted tones chosen by the customer, using sustainable, eco-conscious paints from Victory Colours. The soft palette works beautifully with the natural light from the large window, helping the space feel brighter, cleaner and far more restful.

All woodwork and built-in storage were also carefully prepared and refinished to bring the room together as a simple, cohesive space.

A good decorating finish rarely begins with the final coat of paint — it starts with the preparation underneath.

Flat Renovation – Part 1: Small Bedroom, Big Transformation

This was the smaller of the two bedrooms in a flat I fully redecorated recently.

And as you can see from the before and after photos…it needed some care.

Painted-over wallpaper.
Cracked and uneven plaster.
Rough previous repairs.
Tired built-in units.

This wasn’t just a “freshen up”.

To get this room right, I:

✔ Stripped all old wallpaper
✔ Opened up and properly repaired cracks
✔ Stabilised blown areas
✔ Lined the walls to create a smooth, paintable surface
✔ Prepped and refinished the built-in cabinetry
✔ Painted all ceilings, walls and woodwork for a clean, modern finish

In smaller bedrooms especially, every surface shows.
There’s nowhere to hide poor prep.

The result is a bright, calm, usable space that now feels finished — not patched together.
