Emergency works at Bayfordbury Mansion this morning

We headed over to deal with a failed stem on this Corkscrew Willow, which had come down following extensive decay around the main union.

The fallen section was safely cut free, before we dismantled the remaining compromised stem down to a safer height to reduce the risk of further failure.

A good example of why significant decay in old pruning wounds and unions needs to be taken seriously.

One seriously hollow Ash stem!

The crown had been removed the day before, leaving us to safely fell the remaining trunk to ground level.

Once down, the extent of the internal decay was incredible — with very little sound timber remaining in places.

A great example of just how compromised a tree can be internally while still standing.

Another full removal & stump grinding job completed! 🌳

We removed an ivy-clad Silver Birch using climbing and sectional dismantling techniques, safely bringing the tree down to ground level.

We then felled a Lawson Cypress at ground level before grinding out both stumps and leaving the areas clean, tidy and ready for whatever the customer has planned next.

Access was pretty tight on this one, so we made good use of the tow ball on our Bandit SG-40 to manoeuvre the 12ft tipping trailer straight into the garden — definitely made the extraction a lot easier!

And of course, we had some important onsite supervision from Ted the Rottweiler 🐕

✅ Silver Birch dismantled to ground level
✅ Lawson Cypress felled
✅ Both stumps ground out
✅ Timber and waste removed
✅ Site left clean & tidy

I started tree work as a general labouring job while studying engineering at college. Fast forward 11 years, and I’m now running my own company and still working alongside the very person who first showed me the ropes.

This week we spent two days reducing this impressive oak tree by 2 metres in a particularly challenging location, working directly over the client’s house. Careful planning, precision, and teamwork were essential to get the job done safely and to a high standard.

Another hazardous tree safely removed

This mature Oak had significant decay caused by Ganoderma white rot, compromising the structural integrity of the stem and root system. Due to the extent of the fungal decay, the safest option was a full dismantle followed by stump grinding.

Using sectional dismantling techniques, rigging and careful lowering, we safely brought the tree down piece by piece before grinding out the stump and leaving the area tidy and ready for re-use.
