Being fully booked sounds great, but there’s a downside when you’re having to turn good jobs away.

At some point you’ve got to realise your time has a value — and stop giving so much of it away for free.

⚠️ JUST TO CLARIFY — I DON’T ACTUALLY CHARGE A DAY RATE. IT’S JUST HOW I WORK OUT MY PRICES.

So yeah, I’ve put my prices up.

I started out at £160 a day, then went up to £180, and from my next bookings I’m going to £200.

Over the last year I’ve got a lot better at what I do. My prep is better, I’m much better at repairs and sorting out imperfections, and I’m definitely more particular about the finished result than I was when I started.

I also put a lot of time and effort into every job. I wouldn’t say I’m the most experienced or most skilled decorator out there, but I don’t think you’ll find many people who’ll put more into getting the job right.

I’m now booked up until July next year as well, so I think it’s fair that my prices reflect both the standard of work I’m producing and the demand for it.

I know £200 a day will sound expensive to some people and cheap to others, but honestly, I think it’s a fair price for where I’m at now.

Still learning, still improving, but I’m definitely not the same decorator I was when I started.

A recent one.

A freshen-up on a recently refurbished bungalow.

The corridor was finished in Crown Clean Extreme, colour matched to Farrow & Ball Oxford Stone No. 264, giving a durable, hard-wearing finish for this high-traffic area.

The utility room and bathroom were finished in Crown Clean Extreme Mould Inhibiting Scrubbable Matt in White, ideal for areas exposed to higher levels of moisture and condensation.

Woodwork was primed with Zinsser BIN and top-coated in Crown Fastflow Quick Drying Eggshell.

Really happy with how this one came together.

Just another look at this job from the other day.

If you’re thinking about having any exterior work done next year, now is the time to get booked in. I’m already booked up into May with normal work, and realistically I’ve only got the May–September window for exterior jobs.

There are only so many slots available, so if you want yours doing next year, get in touch sooner rather than later.

Final exterior job of the year wrapped up, and this one was definitely a challenging one.

Painted using Sandtex High Cover Smooth in the Sandtex colour Chalk Hill. A lot of prep, a lot of paint, and a lot of physical work at height to get the finish right. Really happy with how it’s turned out.

Another job ticked off for one of our regular customers. 👍

This time it was the master bedroom and the second living area, both finished in Elephant’s Breath (Farrow & Ball No. 229).

The master bedroom had a full colour change, while the second living area was already in Elephant’s Breath and just needed a freshen-up to get it looking like new again.

Both rooms were finished using Crown Clean Extreme, with all surfaces primed using Zinsser BIN, and all the woodwork finished in Crown Fastflow Quick Drying Satin for a durable, high-quality finish.

Always grateful for returning customers and the trust they put in us. We’ve now completed over 60% of this home, and it’s been great to see each room come together over time.

One I’m really proud of.

Over the last year I’ve completed the exterior painting of all three homes across this site, with the first one actually being the first exterior job I ever took on.

It’s been a huge project with a lot of preparation, repairs and painting involved, but seeing the transformation across all three homes has been a brilliant feeling.

A lot of hard work has gone into this one, but it’s definitely a job I’ll remember.

Finally got this one over the line.
This was my third exterior job of the year, and it definitely wasn’t the easiest. It ended up running over schedule, and with the arrival of our baby in the middle of the job, it was a challenge balancing everything. Thankfully, it all worked out in the end.
A total of 170 litres of Sandtex High Cover Smooth Brilliant White went into this project, and I’m really pleased with the finished result. On to the next one.
