These devices give you early warning and precious seconds to escape. But they can only do their job if they’re tested regularly.

🛠️ Take a few minutes today to:
✅ Press the test button until it beeps
✅ Check for signs of damage or age
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Make sure alarms are installed on every level of your home, especially near sleeping areas

📅 Make it a habit, test your alarms once a month.

It’s a small action that could make a life-saving difference.

Electricity is often overlooked as a possible fire hazard. This may be because there is no flame. However, some 28,000 fires in the home are reported each year as being caused by electrical faults, accidents or misuse of electrical equipment. This week we'll be sharing some top tips on staying safe.

Do you know what you're dressing your little pumpkin up in?

The spookiest night of the year is approaching, but Halloween could become a horror story if you aren't careful.

Halloween costumes are often classed as toys, meaning they aren't subject to the same fire safety checks as normal clothing.

This means Halloween costumes often burn quickly or melt, as seen in this picture. We encourage you to make sure your child is wearing normal clothing underneath their costume so there's something between them and their costume if it catches fire.

You can also swap your candles for electric lights instead, reducing the fire risk to your household and family.

If you're an adult, avoid drinking around candles, especially if you're looking after a little vampire tomorrow, Save the witches' brew for somewhere without fire.

Finally, if a costume does catch fire, remember to stop, drop, and roll. Speak to your children too, it might seem like common knowledge to you but it's always best to inform your child of fire safety advice.

Do wired smoke alarms expire?

"Replace all smoke alarms, including those that use ten-year batteries and hard-wired alarms, when they are ten years old or sooner if they don't respond properly when tested." Each smoke detector should be replaced 10 years after the date of installation.
