Match Report U9s away v Highfield, Sun 4th May
Yesterday saw our U9s play their second match of the season against a very capable Highfield team. After our captain, Jake, won the toss we decided to bowl first. The team made an excellent start with brilliant bowling from Ellie which resulted in taking 2 wickets in the first over. Despite some good bowling after this point, Highfield were able to pick up runs on a regular basis, which meant that their score kept increasing throughout the innings. Cobey did manage to bowl a maiden over to slow the scoring and our commitment in the field was very good, including a superb diving stop on the boundary by Joseph to prevent four runs. Ellie and Jake both took 2 wickets and Cobey took the final wicket to fall. Highfield produced a challenging 316 for us to chase.
As a team we knew our batting had to be really good and our first pair of Ellie and Alex got us off to a positive start, although we did lose a couple of early wickets. Our next partnership of Jake and Cobey managed to progress the score in their 4 overs by 31 runs, including a very impressive 28 from Jake who pulled a short ball for a magnificent 6. Our next pair displayed some resolute defence and some great counter hitting by Dominic in his first game added more positive runs to the total. Unfortunately our final pair came up against some very accurate bowling and lost wickets despite trying their best to keep the bowlers out. Our innings closed on 240.
The whole team showed lots of commitment and there were many positives to take from the game as we move forward throughout the season.
