Part 2 of this Garden City home transformation.

An elegant open-plan kitchen, dining and living area now sits at the heart of the home. Traditional detailing, natural materials and layered textures bring warmth and richness throughout.

It was a pleasure to work on this beautiful Arts and Crafts home in the heart of Letchworth Garden City.

A rear extension and partial garage conversion created the extra space needed to improve function and comfort, while remaining sensitive to the Garden City setting and heritage constraints.

From the pan tile creasing to the Georgian glazing bars, each exterior detail was carefully considered to preserve the character and charm of the property and its surroundings.

Inside, the reworked layout includes an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, alongside a snug, utility room, study, shower room, and a flexible exercise and guest room.

Stay tuned for a closer look inside!

Before and after shots!

A generous yet subtle addition to a family home on the outskirts of Hitchin.

Completed in 2025, this two-storey side extension blends seamlessly with the original house. By following the shape of the building and matching the brickwork, roof tiles, and other materials, the extension was designed to look and feel as if it had always been there, while providing our client with ample space for everything on their wish list.

A closer look inside this West Hitchin home. Removing the old sunroom and opening up a series of small rooms has created a brighter, more fluid ground floor.

An L-shaped rear extension, 2.5m at its shallowest and 4m at its deepest, provides a generous footprint for a growing family.

Internal glazed doors offer a clear line of sight from the front door to the garden, while the kitchen peninsular and tiled step down into the seating area gently define each zone.

Before and after shots.

This West Hitchin family home had evolved gradually over the decades, leaving it feeling rather disjointed, most noticeably across the rear elevation. One of the key goals of the project was to bring everything together with a cohesive design that worked both inside and out.

Extending to the rear, restructuring the roof and expanding the dormers has created a more generous footprint for family life, while sleek aluminium glazing and a crisp white finish tie the exterior together, resulting in a calm, balanced and unified rear elevation.

There’s so much more to this project, and the interior is every bit as transformed…more on that to come!

Sometimes the best choice isn’t to build bigger, but to build better.
This project began with plans for a larger extension, but after their first Spring in the house the family decided they didn’t want to lose their west-facing patio or garden views from upstairs. Instead, they decided to make the most of the footprint they already had.
An extensive rebuild was still essential, as the single-skin brickwork of the original extension wasn’t up to standard. The rebuild was enhanced with sliding doors, gable glazing and a London brick finish to complement the soft white of the original house.

These 3D renders were created in-house to bring to life a project we’re currently working on in Hitchin.

We offer realistic renders like these to help our clients imagine how a space will feel, turning flat floorplans into something three-dimensional, giving a sense of light, flow and scale.

A warm and welcoming living–dining space, designed for our client to connect with their south-facing garden and existing kitchen. A rear extension replaces an old conservatory, squaring off the back of the house. By removing only part of the rear wall, the original kitchen could remain in place, keeping costs and disruption to a minimum. An open step-down and a new breakfast bar now subtly connect the two spaces, while generous glazed doors and skylights flood the space with light, elegantly showcasing the client’s vintage and antique treasures.
