Front Gardens can have as much interest as back gardens. This is a front garden I planted and designed last year, filled with Roses, grasses, and other perennials, using evergreens for structure for all year. Beneficial for wildlife and giving the clients interest and colour all year round ๐ŸŒธ Especially enjoying the Sesleria autumnalis grass in the last picture. An unfussy evergreen grass whose silvery flower heads should last through the colder months to bring interest ๐ŸŒพ

This small garden faces north, however with the right plants it can still be filled with lush plants and flowers. By removing the lawn and designing deep borders, we maximised the space for as many plants as possible. The pale porcelain paving also reflects the light which brightens the garden even during the winter when the garden gets very little direct sunlight.

After/before project. When I first visited this garden, it was planted up with multiple pittosporum, echinacea , salvias and a few ferns thrown in too, which were dotted around with no real plan. I reused as many of the existing plants as possible to create a more coherent plan with two wide beds for interest all year round. Unfortunately it wasnโ€™t possible to use all 30 Pittosporum in the garden ๐Ÿ˜

A garden design from a few years ago. Curves, swirls, circles are a great way of transitioning from area to area, maximising space and creating a natural aesthetic to the garden and will still look great during the winter months ๐Ÿ’ซ .

Green is an underrated colour in the garden and a colour that is less easy to spot at this time of year. In this picture you have the evergreen of the pittosporum against Hydrangea Annabelle. This time of year is a great time of year to take stock of the bones, structure of your garden and plan for next year. So even if you are a fair weather gardener, you can still be plotting and planning for the days to comeโ€ฆ โ€˜good gardeners are always young in spirit, for their minds are fixed on spring when others feel only the bitter sting of winter.โ€ โ€“ Mary Fanton-Roberts. I donโ€™t think you have to be a good gardener to feel this though just enjoy it ๐Ÿ’š

Well designed outdoor spaces are even more important during the winter months. This is a fire pit and covered pizza oven area I designed a couple of years ago. A fire pit can be a great addition in the garden and help extend the use of garden all year round and can be the perfect spot for family gatherings on chillier autumn evenings
