Not every garden needs a full redesign.

Often, what’s missing isn’t more, but clarity. A clearer understanding of what’s working, what isn’t, and how best to move forward.

This is exactly where The Garden Edit sits.

A focused, considered session designed to give clear direction - from layout and planting to practical next steps. Followed by a concise written brief to guide you forward.

In-person sessions are always recommended where possible, allowing us to experience the garden directly and respond to it with greater depth and precision.

It’s a simple, thoughtful way to move your garden on, without overcomplicating the process.

If this feels like where you are, details are in the usual place, or feel free to get in touch, or book directly following the link in bio.

With temperatures climbing to 34degrees in the South of England again this week, and seeing in an unprecedented ‘fourth’ heatwave of the year- here’s our top tips on how to keep your garden hydrated.

On the other side of the climate coin: wetter winters, followed by longer, drier spells in summer are set to stay. We’ll be sharing more tips on the effects of climate change and how we can plan, design and garden with this change, rather than against it.

It’s been a while since I properly introduced myself — so whether you’re new here or have followed along for some time — hello! 🌿

For those who’ve been here a while, well, there’s been plenty happening behind the scenes since my last ‘hello’. It’s been a tough ride at times — with big questions, future ventures and moments of clarity (and uncertainty) around how to show up here in a way that feels thoughtful and meaningful.

Fear not. After a much-needed ‘beach break breather’, I’m back — and with a promise to be here a little more often going forward. So let’s reset…

Studio Fitzpatrick was born from a deep-rooted love of design, travel and people. With a background in luxury travel and hospitality, I’ve spent years understanding how environments shape how we feel — and what’s needed to make a space truly work.

That instinct now guides everything we do as a landscape design studio — crafting timeless, elegant spaces across the UK, and hopefully someday, beyond.

We work closely with homeowners, collaborators and professionals to shape gardens and landscapes that feel personal, beautiful and lasting. It’s design-led, experience-guided and delivered end-to-end.

You’ll also see me regularly contributing as a senior designer and project lead for Juliet Sargeant, and teaching at Sussex Garden School — both of which enrich and inform my practice here.

Outside the studio?
You’ll often find me swooning over a beautifully designed boutique hotel — the kind where every detail tells a story — or indulging in good, honest food: local, seasonal, and just a little bit creative. More often than not, I’m pottering in the kitchen garden, chasing after Ollie (who’s usually stolen my gloves again 🙄), or cooking something from the harvest — usually with a glass of something lovely in hand.

Thanks for being here.
If you’re thinking about your own outdoor space, I’d love to hear from you — you can contact me at the studio via the link above 🌿

Roses have long been associated with the month of June. It’s their time to showcase all their beauty from blousy blooms to heady scents.

They’ve long been associated with sentimental value too, often being gifted or bought to celebrate or commemorate a special event and providing a talking point in the garden for years to come.

I inherited this climbing rose when I bought my cottage. I have no idea what the name of it is and unfortunately the flowers are relatively short lived. I was reliably told that it was planted nearly 70 years ago!
It’s thick, gnarly stem which has been trained up the front wall of the cottage reaches high, allowing it’s delicious scent to permeate through the bedroom window on a balmy summers evening whilst also framing the windows.

TOP TIPS FOR DESIGNING WITH ROSES
1. If you have the space, plant shrub roses in groups of three- this will give you that exuberant and full look often associated with rose gardens

2. Under plant your shrub roses with Campanula portenschlagiana for a cottage garden look, and to provide added interest

3. Extend your flowering seasons by planting climbing roses with Clematis Alpina and Viticella varieties

If you know what type of Rose I have, I’d love to hear from you. Also, what’s let me know what your favourite is?

Top 5 most admired/ asked about on our show garden…

1. Cornus Venus
This has been the talk of the show, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s a small but tough dogwood tree, offering year round interest. The flowers (bracts) from spring, are large saucer shaped cream in colour with a blush of pink, small strawberry looking fruits appear after flowering and a sensational autumn display of colour follows in the autumn. This beauty was provided by

2. Salvia ‘Love and Wishes’ & Lysimachia ‘Beaujolais’ - both offer are a magnet for bees, offering a great food source, supplied by

3. Terracotta Block walls- inspired by the concrete decorative block work so popular a few decades back, we’ve chosen this sustainable terracotta alternative to show how you can make a feature of these walls in your garden. Supplied by

4. Penstemon ‘Husker Red’ - perfect for the middle of a sunny, mixed or herbaceous border- supplied by

5. Liquidambar - one of the best trees/ shrubs for Autumn Colour- this beauty has uncommonly been trained on a frame to create a compact wall shrub- it’s stunning lush green foliage in the summer turns the most beautiful shade of red come autumn, and the gnarlly bark also adds to its attraction of providing multi seasonal interest in a small space, supplied by .co.uk

Lastly the pink walls have also been admired… paint is Johnson’s weather shield paint in colours; Cool Melon, Strawflower and Rose Heart- supplied by
