Smalley Dam Restoration

Smalley Dam Restoration We're a group of volunteers aiming to develop and improve the local beauty spot that is Smalley Dam. Come and join us! Watch here for workdays.

Smalley Dam was created towards the end of the 18th Century by John Redford, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, who used it as a boating lake to impress his friends and family. The restoration group was set up in 2012 in order to develop and improve the area for visitors and for wildlife. If you're interested in joining us, get in touch or come along to one of our work days - occasional Saturdays or

Sundays from 9am until at least midday (usually from May/June until September/October) - keep an eye on this page for details!

Although it's grey and wet today, it was looking like spring had sprung when I visited the dam on Thursday!

It's a bit wet down at the dam. Instead would you like to help in some community tree planting?

Sunday 24th from 10:00 at the Tavern Plantation - meet in the car park by the cricket ground off Dobholes Lane in Smalley.

Bring a spade and appropriate footwear!

Given the rainfall over the last couple of days, we've decided to cancel the planned work morning tomorrow. Mike has been for a recce and it's pretty muddy underfoot, and the rain is forecast to continue into the night, so we'd probably do more harm than good!

I'll post again when we find a date to reschedule.
