New change at AMK Joinery Services, I would like to introduce my son Ewen who has decided to join the family business. He had his 1st day at college yesterday, almost 35 years to the day since I enrolled for the very same course.

A recent bedroom renovation which we have been part of, for one of our regular clients.
We levelled and straightened out the floor, insulated plasterboard to all outside walls, lowered the ceiling with framing, insulation and plasterboard and fitted new alcove unit, made by Ian Paton Joinery.
I think you will agree, the room looks fantastic now finished off to clients taste.

A recent project which we did at the start of this year was a new shed for Toms CAP Cabin and we were delighted to be asked along to a BBQ there this afternoon to thank everyone who was and still is involved with the Project.
Toms CAP (Christian’s Against Poverty) Cabin make planters, benches, log stores, garden products and more with the profits supporting the work of CAP locally.
We are delighted that the cabin was completed just in time for Tom Eglinton, the founder of Tom's cap cabin to see it before he sadly passed away. Please check out their page.

New Karndean korlok Urban Grey Rigid Vinyl flooring fitted in kitchen. This floor was bought from Howden’s. If you are interested in this flooring or many other ones in stock, then you can take a various samples home from Howdens and decide what one works best in your home.

Debated whether to post this or not, but this is the harsh side of being self employed and seriously made me question whether it was worth the hassle or if I should just go back on someone else’s books again.

Last weekend we were away and had a visit to IKEA, where on display was this kitchen, with the following splash back.
Coming out of Covid, when many business were struggling to survive, myself included. I fitted a kitchen with this exact same splash back, which was all supplied by the home owner, back then costing just £35 a sheet. As you can see this has no pattern match to the joins, hence the cheap price.
Once complete the home owner decided they wouldn’t pay a penny for the entire kitchen refit along with other work carried out on the project, all because the splash back pattern didn’t match up. This was a huge hit to my business at the time, especially when it’s someone you knew from secondary school, who also owns their own business and knows the struggles coming out of Covid times. I still had bills to pay along with finding a wage for the other guy who worked for me.
I called IKEA at the time who laughed and said “you get what you pay for and this is a cheap splashback with no match whatsoever. However had they paid for a dearer one with a match then that would be a different story, so what else is he expecting”.
So it was interesting to see the splash back in person last weekend and the true reason why someone is sitting comfortably at home with a free kitchen.
