If you thought compost bags had only a few second lives… think again! 🌱♻️

Sure, you can turn them into potato grow bags, plastic liners, or propagation sacks… but our Horticulture Technician Joel has taken things to the next level.

Tired of soggy trousers while watering, Joel got creative and fashioned his very own “kilt” out of a compost bag — practical *and* stylish (in his opinion 😄).

Top tip from Joel: just add a bit of twine to keep everything in place and you’re good to go!

Who knew gardening could be this fashionable? 🌿

🌿🍓 What a fantastic day out!

Today, some of our amazing adult learners visited Boxford Farms, where they got a hands-on look at how delicious fruits are grown and produced. From field to fork, they discovered so much along the way! 🌱

It was a day full of learning, laughter, and fresh air 🌞

A huge thank you to Robert England for generously giving his time and sharing such a fascinating, informative tour across the farm — we truly appreciate it!

Yesterday morning, one of our technicians went over to and was shown how they propagate, plant, and dispatch their Iris's. We have used Howard Nurseries a lot and bought our Iris's from them, which were all really great quality plants and are thriving well in one of our front boarders. What was surprising to hear and the takeaway for the day was that they bury the rhizomes to prevent wind rocking and birds pulling them out.

Well, it's taken us several days, but we have 2 very tidy and organised compost areas. We chipped all the wood thanks to some help from our volunteers and turned all our compost ready for the new term.

We have also been working hard redesigning our hard landscape area. Using our Avant and cone crusher, we were able to crush a large pile of rubble to resurface the area. There is still some more work to do, and we forgot to take a before picture, but trust us, this is 100 times better than how it looked before..

There is still time to sign up for any of our Horticulture courses. Just search Suffolk rural Horticulture to find them. We hope to see some of you in the new term.
