Pelargonium suburbanum, a lovely species despite its gangly habit. The seeds of Pelargoniums are truly fascinating - they gradually manoeuvre themselves via the coiled hairy appendage so that the long structure that forms in the 'beak' of the flower lifts the seed up and pushes it into the soil. I actually found a seed which had been perfectly placed into the compost, better than I could have sown it.

Our unheated polytunnel is now nearly full with a wide range of plants all propagated on the nursery. Lots of plants to fill those pots and for planting in summer displays.

At Christmas there’s a lot of pressure to be perfect and have it all. We see adverts showing happy families in matching PJs, huge piles of expensive presents, nobody is having a drunken row, grieving for a loved one, struggling with finding money for their Christmas dinner or feeling lonely in these adverts.
The Samaritans have a free number - 116 123 (UK). A simple copy and paste might save someone's life.

I've been having a fun time putting up fleece in our polytunnels using 2 or 3 layers of the heavier (30 gms) weight, attaching this to the metal frame with neodymium magnets. Fingers crossed, we've still got a few very cold nights to come.

Looks like the centre of Storm Ciarán will be going over the top of us. There's hardly any wind and no rain, and the sun has just come out. It feels eerily quiet. Our thoughts go out to those of you who have had the devastating winds.

A rather watery trip home yesterday, this was the road outside the nursery. Luckily we were in our van which trundled us happily home, eventually. We've never seen flooding like this, there are still numerous road closures. Elmsett is on top of a hill, but flat and with heavy clay so it takes time for the water to disappear.
