Exciting week at Sherlock's Tree and Countryside Services! We had the pleasure of working on three trees with preservation orders, including a cherry and a lime tree, both reduced by 1/3. We also gave a big beech tree a careful cut back to its old growth.

The best part? Collaborating with our long-time friends at Walsh Tree Services made the experience even more enjoyable! It’s always great to work alongside such skilled and passionate professionals.

Here’s to preserving nature while enjoying the company of great friends!

Exciting developments are underway at Bristol Airport! This past week, our dedicated team truly *smashed* the job, completing a week of planting specifically aimed at supporting the lesser horseshoe bats as part of the ongoing airport development efforts.

We were blessed with lovely weather, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Our fantastic staff worked tirelessly, showcasing their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The new greenery not only beautifies the area but also creates a suitable habitat for these incredible bats, contributing to biodiversity and enhancing the local ecosystem.

We believe that responsible development goes hand-in-hand with ecological awareness, and this planting initiative is just one of the many steps we’re taking to create a positive impact in our community.

Here’s to a wonderful week of hard work, teamwork, and a shared passion for protecting our environment! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to prioritize both progress and conservation at Bristol Airport!

What a start to our Bristol Airport planting contract! We kicked things off yesterday under full sunshine, and the team made fantastic progress across the site.

It’s great to see the first stages of this project taking shape — every tree and shrub we put in the ground is another step toward creating healthier habitats for local wildlife and supporting the airport’s long‑term environmental commitments.

Plenty more to come, but here’s a look at day one in action.

Another wet and wild day on the tools yesterday!

Despite the heavy rain, we safely removed two dead Mountain Ash (Sorbus) trees and replanted the area with two healthy apple trees. A bit of mud, a lot of teamwork, and a much happier space at the end of it.
Always satisfying to replace declining trees with something that will thrive for years to come.
If you need help with tree work, planting, or general grounds care, you know where we are.

The Big Belly Oak in Savernake Forest, Wiltshire, is an ancient oak thought to be over 1000 years old.

It was already growing by the time King Harold fell at Hastings in 1066, and it stands as a rare survivor of the old Wild Wood that once covered much of southern England.

With a huge girth of about 11 metres, the tree has long attracted folklore too, including a local legend about summoning the devil by dancing naked around it at midnight.

In 2002, after a serious crack appeared in its main limbs, Forestry Commission specialists fitted a large brace to help stop the great tree from splitting.
