C&S Architects are delighted to be assisting Hippy Chicks Poultry Limited in regularising the planning status of their business. Despite advice given by the local authority to the contrary when the owners contacted planning prior to starting their business the use of their land for housing and rearing poultry is not "permitted development" and after ten years in business they are required to regularise the use by obtaining Planning Consent. The law requiring this application could in fact apply to anyone with a few chickens ( or indeed rabbits or pigs ) in their back garden so it does seem harsh that this small scale, hobby business which has been quietly and caringly carrying out its business of rearing and protecting rare breed hens for so long now requires to apply for consent. Breeds such as the Old Sussex were once the mainstay of farmyards across the country but have been marginalised by the now common brown hen which was genetically modified ( by big business ) to lay an egg a day and the Auracana which lays beautiful blue shelled eggs are now endangered and preserving the purity of their blood lines has never been more important. If you would like to help protect these species by supporting Hippy Chicks Poultry please go to Renfrewshire Council Planning Department website and support this application by clicking on this link :
