Always love clearing an overgrown space - never quite sure what things you'll find (in this case, some secret chicken egg stashes! 👍🐔🥚). Also got some bonus cuddles with some rescue sheep 🐑 ❤️

Some before and after shots of a clearance job in Ayrshire. Excited thinking about what can be done with this space now the weeds are gone.

Lawns, why do we have them?
Having a well kept grass lawn dates back to Victorian times, where it was a status symbol to grow and meticulously maintain a useless plant that you can’t eat.
Times have changed since then but we still seem to want to have a lawn.
You can transition to a more diverse mix of plants which benefits pollinators as well as looking beautiful.
Clover, thyme, chamomile can all replace sections of your lawn and the wildlife it will bring will be fantastic.

Hedges, we love them.
Did you know a hedge can intercept 75% of surface water running down a slope. For flood prone areas hedges are your friend, other than that wildlife love them. Lots of us have privet hedges, these are great but lack biodiversity. Consider getting some other species in there like dog rose, hazel, hawthorn etc, then you and the wildlife can eat it.
Planting a new hedge works out much cheaper than installing a new fence, it requires maintenance but so do all worthwhile things and it won’t need replacing in 10 years. It may need laying or pleaching if it starts to get bare at the bottom on full of gaps, this can be done in winter when nesting birds are away.

We can all play our part in this climate emergency.
Gardens account for a massive land area much underused in biodiversity terms.
We are looking to practice regenerative gardening, this means we won’t be installing Astro turf or ripping out your hedge to replace with a fence. Instead we will be looking to remove lawns and replace with things like clover, chamomile, thyme etc.
Change starts with one small step, whatever you can reuse, recycle, repurpose will work in your edible garden. Start growing vegetables and herbs, have fruit and nut trees, grow salad leaves and garlic. Imagine stepping out into your garden and getting your vegetables for dinner that evening, only touched by your hands, free from chemicals.
We will still cut your lawn and trim your hedge, but we will be asking you if you are composting, and if not why not. We want to help educate and inspire to stop us from being a slave to supermarkets and to remember food is free.
We are horticulturally trained and our winter job is planting millions of trees across Scotland so we are not short of experience. Saor Forestry Ltd
