June is one of the busiest months in the garden, with tender crops, summer bedding, and plenty of harvesting to enjoy. Here are Andrew’s top gardening tips for the month:
🌸 Pick sweet peas regularly to keep the flowers coming.
🫘 Make your final sowing of runner beans. White-flowered varieties cope best with the summer heat.
🌼 Finish planting summer bedding and hanging baskets.
🌽 Plant out tender vegetables such as sweetcorn, courgettes, squash, tomatoes, and beans.
🥗 Keep salads coming with regular sowings of lettuce, rocket, radish, beetroot, and mixed leaves.
🥕 Sow Carrot ‘Eskimo’ now for delicious finger carrots at Christmas.
🍓 Protect soft fruit from birds and keep plants well watered during dry spells.
🍅 Feed tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers regularly once fruits begin to form.
🌺 Start sowing wallflowers, sweet williams, pansies, and violas for autumn colour.
🥔 Enjoy the first harvests of the season… lettuce, radishes, peas, broad beans, beetroot, new potatoes, and more!
