Just a further update on some other work that's been filling the diary recently.

We've been lucky enough to have the pleasure of working in so many beautiful gardens and estates these last few weeks. Lots of opportunities to look back and see the impact of our work.

As to be expected, since the rain, a large part of our daily work is keeping on top of the growth. Lots of strimming, mowing, light hedge trims, weeding and spraying, all done properly. We don't strim borders, we don't cut grass too short meaning it turns brown at the sniff of hot weather. We sweep and tidy after every job and will postpone visits if the dry weather means cutting the grass will have no benefit. Basically, we do what's best for the garden, not our back pockets.

A fair bit of fencing work has been coming in too, which I generally fit in at weekends and there is a small amount of availability for that going forward. The Mon-Fri's are pretty full with gardening work but availability crops up here and there now the effects of having a second man are being felt. We remain at 100% client retention for regular garden visits, now into our third year which is something I'm very proud of.

Add to all that, a new van earlier this month, it really has been a positive start to the season. The old Berlingo that served me so well and cost me a mere £500 when I first started is in semi-retirement, coming out on light duties as and when required....but with 250k miles on it, I hope she doesn't mind me saying, it was beginning to look a bit tired.

Most importantly of all, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the custom from every single client we have visited this last few weeks. The loyalty, support and recognition for the pride we take in every element of our work is hugely valuable to me. It's what gives me the job satisfaction to keep going. So thank you!

A social media post wouldn't be any good without a bit of proof we are doing what I say we are doing....so here's some photos of a couple of recent jobs. Feel free to head over to our page to see more. 👍

Have a great remainder of your weekend all.

The most recent job in progress is a budget garden makeover for a valued client....valued meaning I'm fed and watered throughout the day 😂. With this one,it was made clear that I needed to improve the aesthetics reusing existing materials wherever possible to give the biggest 'bang for buck'. The roadside fence panels were removed and concrete posts dug out where required and straightened....not an easy task. We followed the existing lines whilst dealing with a pavement edge, a large step down in ground level and a telegraph pole positioned slap bang on the fence line. A new fence was then installed running down the side of the driveway. A few last minute alterations meant that this also wasn't as easy as it could have been. Add to that the removal of a turf lawn by hand followed by membrane and gravel installation. A new gatepost and raised bed border are still to come but it's really coming along.

Jobs like this can be really satisfying when considering the difference made with such minimal cost. The client helped throughout, saving on labour costs and providing some very welcome banter throughout. We had some really tricky, head scratching times, but it's certainly one we can look back at and say we enjoyed and it was worth the effort.

Good morning all!

As expected, it's turning out to be a very busy year so far. Stewart is proving to be a hugely valuable asset and is really helping me get through jobs a lot quicker. The feedback from clients has always been positive so I couldn't be happier at the prospect of working with Stewart for the foreseeable future. A truly multi skilled, client focussed individual which is what we are all.about.

The diary is full for at least 6-8weeks but I'm doing my best to fit in ad-hoc requests where I can.

We've had a huge variety of work come in recently, both domestic and commercial. From garden tidy ups to summer house construction, fencing to radiator installs, gravel installation to generator repairs....I even took on a glowplug retrofit on a Perkins diesel engine recently (a new one to me!). All this means I am now working early till.late every day of the week so some messages and calls are not being returned. I do apologise if you have experienced this....it's on me....and I'm working to improve that. Responses, in my opinion, are vital, even if it's to say there is no availability.

What I ask is, if there is any work that can wait until November-February, please consider doing that. I offer better rates in those months as most will know that's a quieter time of year for me.

That's it for now. A few photos of a few of our recent mini projects below.

Have a wonderful remainder of the weekend all.

It's been a while since our last update! There's a clue in that first sentence as to why.

A recent search for a partner in crime has proved fruitful and to say I was blown away by the response to my advert is an understatement. Stewart will be joining me on a lot of our jobs going forward from April and I also have the help of a young lad when the need for that extra bit of support arises. I'm truly grateful to both of them for the time it took to get in touch, complete the application questions and attend trial days. I am also sorry to all those I just didn't have the time to respond to. That lack of time is very much the reason for needing that extra help. I truly appreciate the interest shown and who knows, I may be looking again within the next year to help expand our service.

With the garden maintenance season gathering pace, early signs are that it's going to be a busy year. Quotations are flying out and work is filling the diary....but...with a second man now available, we can work through it more quickly. We now have availability from mid April for one-off jobs and regular garden maintenance visits.

Those who have relied on my services for the last few years will know that I fill my diary to make the low rates pay, so slots rarely crop up. Now's the time to get in touch if you need some help in the garden, a new fence, a mower repair or even some timber work this year. Have a look through our page to see the kind of work we can carry out.

Enjoy the weather while it lasts 😊👍

Just a bit of a plug for a local business here. Chris (who happens to be our next door neighbour) has recently set up a page, ACE Brickwork. He may be new to Facebook, but his experience spans 25 years and has an enviable reputation for the quality of his work. I've recommended him to several of my clients in the past and will continue to do so, without hesitation. We actually did an entire reroof on our houses a couple of years ago, so I've also had the pleasure of working with him for that and can honestly say, hes a top bloke in all respects....polite, courteous, decent and affordable.

Whether or not you or anyone you know needs and brickwork doing now or in the future, please give his page a follow to support his move into social media promotion.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend all and wishing all the fab Mums a restful day. 😊👍

When an engineering mindset really helps! Fencing often necessitates problem solving, using what you have to hand to make things work. Pulling old fence posts is one such task. I've seen ropes, levers and even jack's used before but always found this method to be the simplest when there is not enough of the old post to grip on to.

A dank day on the estate today, replacing a tired 12ft gate and two posts, kindly supplied by Swaffham Building Supplies. Ironmongery all reused with a temporary measure on the latch end until the fence is replaced/extended.

Then onto removal of some stable doors ready for the hinges, bolts and latches to be shot blasted and zinc coated as part of a refresh.

Fencing really has taken up a lot of my time this winter and that's not a complaint....I love doing it. Keep them coming!

I have a bit of an announcement to make shortly to watch this space!

Very pleased with how this one turned out on Saturday morning.

Security was key (no pun intended) here for this valued repeat client in Kings Lynn, so instead of slot in panels, they opted for the recessed posts and closeboard. Key lock fitted also. 8.25ft concrete recessed posts dug in 2.25ft and concreted in, cant rails, 5.5ft feather edge and 6in concrete gravel board resulted in a smart and secure fence. Finished the day fitting a bespoke loft hatch for the same client!

Thanks again for all the responses to my recent job advert, shortlisting is progressing and I should have some help in the near future meaning we can begin offering more dates for the coming year. Currently weekends only from mid march so please do get in touch with all your gardening and fencing needs.

UPDATE: I've been blown away by the response to this and thank you so much for all the messages, calls and voicemails. I'll be sending out further details to all those who have been in touch along with some application questions which can be answered via SMS or messenger to make things easier and to help me shortlist. I'm sorry, I won't be able to respond to everyone but will do my best.

Bit of a long shot here....

I need a partner in crime! Someone that is happy to put their hand to anything, but mainly gardening and fencing.

Scaling up a small business can be hard so I need someone who is flexible with the hours I can offer to start, but, with the diary already full for one man (me) for the year ahead, it seems now is the time to take on a second man.

This would suit a school leaver or semi-retired individual, but they do need to have a business mindset, hard work ethic and good attention to detail.

If the candidate lives local to Pentney, I can pick them up and provide all tools. You'll be assisting me with mowing, strumming, weeding, holding fence posts while I pour post mix, check levels, nail on boards, cart tools to the work site, load and unload the van, have a bit of banter and enjoy the outdoors in the process. It's not always easy, and we'll be out in all weathers, but on the good days, we'll stop at the pub on the way home. I expect courtesy and decency around clients and value for money for what they are paying. You'll help me provide the same level of service that I have been for the last two years and you'll be rewarded for going the extra mile when the opportunity arises.

This is a first for me, so hoping £15ph on a self employed basis initially with all tools and transport provided will be attractive to the right candidate. PAYE will be an option a little further down the line as we grow the business together.

Drop me a message if you or anyone you know might be interested.
