Slating on!

Its heavy work this slating and everything about it is sharp and ready to cut you as soon as look at you. But there is a lovely simplicity about doing it.

A long but satisfying day. 38 rafters cut all to size. I've put 8 in place to see how they look and I am pretty pleased.

Had loads of help from my eldest son which made things go alot quicker. Also a big Thank you to the brilliant and patient Tristan Couch for helping me set out the first rafter... made the process a whole lot clearer.

Next step is use the nail gun to attach the rafters to the top plate and wall plates. Batterns, felt and slates all arrive tomorrow!

Marking out the cuts for all 38 of the roof rafters.

We marked and cut and adjusted one rafter for each side and then we've used those two as templates for the others.

Now to cut them all on the chop saw and then the birds mouth cuts by hand! 😬

Well what I thought would be a really tough job is actually quite straight forward thanks to my new sds drill.

What furniture have you converted to suit your needs?

We love a good before and after, so here is the stair detail now in and looking great! Oak strips, oiled.

Thanks to for a lovely bit of work and to Ed at for the inspiration.

Just the led strip to be connected to the electrics and we'll be good.

To compliment it all the wood floor is finally being laid this week and next.
