Here we go..... 🤪😬👊🥊

Meet the teacher!
I thought it might be helpful to let you know a bit about me. I'm Tim 😊. I grew up in Northamptonshire, I moved down here when I was 19. I met my now wife in Fusion (classy) the year after, and I’ve never looked back. We now have 2 young sons and live in Loddiswell.
I first trained in martial arts when I was 17, over 20 years ago. With a few short breaks it has, in some form or other, been a very important part of my life ever since. I have trained in clubs in Northampton, Torquay, Dawlish, and most recently with South Hams Martial Arts, where I have been teaching classes for over a year. As well as kickboxing I have also trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Judo.
Before moving to Devon I wasn’t going down the best path in life, I was struggling with my mental wellbeing, and falling in with the wrong crowd. I think this is one of the reasons I am so passionate about martial arts; the discipline, focus, confidence and community it has provided me with has really supported both my physical and emotional health, it may have even saved my life. Training continues to be the way that I personally manage the difficult days….I hope I’m still kicking pads when I am a very old man!
Professionally I have a few hats! I started in gardening, but realised that I much prefer looking after plants than cutting grass, so trained with the RHS to become a horticulturalist. Generally, the natural world is my other huge passion in life – especially trees and frogs (if anyone ever wants to chat about how awesome frogs are, I am here for it!)
After becoming a mature student and studying Environmental Education, I went on to qualify as a Forest School teacher. As a result, I have been working with children and young people, including those with additional social and emotional needs for the last decade. I now balance horticulture with being a Therapeutic Youth worker in Torbay, supporting children who are out of mainstream education.
I’m nervous, excited, and a bit terrified to be adding having my own kickboxing club into the mix. But I am looking forward to sharing my passion, meeting new people, teaching, learning, and hopefully having a lot of fun!

A busy few weeks in Behavioural support at Teignmouth Secondary.
First we started to play around with the idea of making items with metal, which is still in its infancy.
Second we made a BBQ for permanent outdoor cooking.
Third all the plants, boot holders and bird houses that the students had grown and made with myself, Mr Horne and Mr Williams have been sold at review day to raise money for the behaviour support outdoor learning space. Raising over £300. So so proud of these kids and their amazing talents that flourish outside the classroom.

Just recently the government has finally released a paper that says they accept the importance of Forest School and being outside in the natural environment is beneficial to everyone.
Also the students, who as ever are amazing, made a saw horse to make building their woodland projects easier.

The students first attempt, last Thursday, at making furniture without screws or nails. They used mallets, knives and an old hand powered drill. There are no clamps either so they all had to hold the wood and drill it using teamwork and communication, to avoid accidents. They also sourced the wood on site by taking wood from a fallen Ash branch, so as not to destroy any living trees. Just the top to put on and they have a coffee table.

During the last few weeks of school we did some cool things at Forest School some of which was a 9 foot reindeer and cooking eggs on a brick. The calender year has been a great success for behavioural, emotional and social development, with many students openly saying that they love the safe and relaxed environment in which to talk about any issues.
i have been privileged enough to talk though their lives and help empathize with young people these last few years. Happy Christmas kids at TCS, your all a bit nuts but I wouldn't change you.

To our customers;
As most will know Tim endured emergency spinal surgery in mid June. In recent weeks we have tried hard to meet the needs of our customers while Tim recovers. Unfortunately now both our apprentice and Tim's cousin who volunteers for us need to have some time off. Therefore it is with much regret and frustration that we need to let everyone know that we have decided to temporarily stop trading for 2-3 weeks. Tim has always prided himself on providing a high quality service, centred around excellent customer service and plant knowledge. Whilst we know that temporarily closing the business at this time will be very frustrating for our customers, we also know how important it is to uphold our standards. We understand and completely respect that we may loose customers at this time but will be offering our regulars one hour free upon our return to trading. A huge thank you for all the support and loyalty that we have received from our amazing clients to date. As a small family business, it really does mean the world. Thank you, Emma Wise

Being registered as a Buy With Confidence (Trading Standards Approved) contractor its important to be aware of people who may not have the best of intentions.
Here are some tips that Trading Standards recommend when getting someone to work for you:
Be scam aware
Scammers and rogue traders target hundreds of people every year in the South West, conning them out of huge amounts of money.

Scams range from bogus prize draws to unscrupulous workmen offering home repairs and traders selling goods from the back of vans to people passing on the street.

You can find lots of information about consumer and business scams and how to protect yourself on our website. And remember:

Do not agree to work offered by unsolicited doorstep callers.
Take time to get three quotes from reputable businesses you trust and make your decision on who to use in your own time.
Get recommendations from friends or via Buy With Confidence.
Concerned someone is at risk? Always call the police.
Concerned rogue traders are operating in your area? Always report it.
If someone knocks on your door and you are not sure, don’t open the door.
If you are approached and offered products or services, do not buy them, even if it sounds like a good deal. If you want to buy those sorts of products or services, use reputable businesses who provide paperwork including a legitimate address and come recommended, either by friends or via Buy With Confidence
