🍂News…🍂

After seven years of our fabulous and unique, creative wee Garden Shop, the time has come for me and Amanda to hang up our twine aprons…

twine will be closing her doors towards the end of November.

We have loved every minute of it (well most of it, with the exception of navigating Brexit and Covid) … the gathering of & faffing with fabulous finds…

We thank you all; our fabulous enthusiastic and loyal customers… we couldn’t have done it without you! It has just been such a joy to meet you all over the years.

The majority of the stock has 40% off so please do come and see us and perhaps pick up a twine bargain.
(Wreaths are the exception…)

Thank you again
Gill & Amanda x

What is the collective noun for a group of tureens… beautiful enamel tureens showing their age, life & laughter lines!

How fabulous would these look as a table centrepiece either individually or as a group down the centre of a long table …

They are water/soup tight… (well all the ones I have tested are)

Pop in to pick one up…

All the Green’s Shelfie…

Are you a complimentary colour person or a contrasting colour person?
All similar colours together and a limited colour palette but playing with shape, tone, scale & texture… or are you a riot of colour!

I think (mostly) I am a ‘complimentary colour’ or ‘limited colour palette’ person, I find a calmness to it… not that I don’t appreciate or enjoy a delightful cacophony of colour. I definitely like to add a splash of colour and the energy that brings to a limited colour palette but my ‘favourite’ splash of colour changes so frequently that I find a splash easier to manage! 😄

So which are you?

The Robins have left the building!… however the Wrens have taken up residence!

Recently, we had a Robin family who chose to set up home in the corner of one of our metal cabinets, with a metal pie dish as their roof…

This was fabulously cosy for them, tucked away from predators; although when the sun came out on Saturday it was like a little oven! I put ice in the pie dish and ran water round the outside of the cabinet to cool down the metal which helped a little bit.

Then the monsoon like rain came on the Sunday and the water was blown into the cabinet and their little mossy nest was a bit soggy… there were 2 wee fledglings left cooried in to the side while still being fed by mum & dad.

I am happy to say that on Wednesday they have all left!

It was stressful being a Robin Aunty!!

However we now have a Wren family who have chosen the Wreath as their home…

Aunty duties resume but I think this is a better positioned little home…

With lots of rain & a (very) little bit of warmth (I think it might be stretching it to say sunshine ☀️) comes growth… and lots of it. I don’t know about your gardens but mine is just bursting into life…
We have all the plant supports you need so along and have a look. They really are lovey. Made of steel and dipped so they produce this lovely rust finish which then blends beautifully into your border. Supporting the plant through the summer and giving a sense of structure when everything dies back in the winter…

Our 3rd and final post for ‘insta’ takeover we thought you may be interested in how twine has developed over the years…

twine… has grown organically over the last 6 years. When we started we could not have had the tag line of ‘a shed load of inspiration’; it would have been more like a shed with a few inspirational things in it, we have definitely grown since then…

Becky was, and always has been, very supportive, inviting us to collaborate with Greengallery first in 2019, again in 2021 and this year 2024.

The one thing that has stayed central to our growth has been the joy of seeking out those fabulous, unusual items that make up twine…

Especially those vintage & unique items unearthed from Markets; from Dealers who “the Scottish girls” have dealt with over the years; who sigh when we handed over our Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank or (the biggest sigh retained for) the Clydesdale Bank notes; who have now become our trusted suppliers and friends who we meet with several@times a year. Those items which we excitedly fall on; re-imagining them as something they were not initially intended for; perhaps suspended from the ceiling, holding a plant or a t-light; or planted up as a table centre, or as garden decor nestled within a herbaceous border with plants growing through it.

Our ‘favourite things’ over the years are many, and for a number of reasons; they can be grand & expensive or simple & modest, you can be assured they make us happy…

From the fantastic, beautifully shaped and proportioned Greenhouses, made in France from recycled factory windows with wonderful patina to the glass; to the rather humble Hungarian deep pie dishes which look incredible when planted up with spring flowering bulbs growing through moss supported by sculptural twigs. Both deserve and have played their part in our story and growth of twine over the years… & perhaps this is a longer post for another day.

If you come and see us, we hope you will be as inspired as we are when we come across these pieces… there is always a story behind why we chose them.

As part of the instagram takeover in our 2nd post of the day we thought you may be interested in what we plan to create for the Summer Exhibition …

It is the blurring of boundaries which we touched on in our previous post which we will be introducing into Greengallery at this Summer Exhibition.

As Greengallery showcases fantastic contemporary Scottish paintings and applied arts, we find that nature is never far away from the subject matter. Whether being represented in the colours, texture or light within the artwork, being surrounded by beautiful countryside and nature in Scotland I suppose it’s no wonder… therefore, bringing the outside in works particularly well in the gallery.

The last time we collaborated with Becky & Greengallery in 2021 we brought the sense of the outdoors in by using some beautiful handprinted fabric by Charlotte Gaunt () within soft furnishings; recovering a deck chair, converting a vintage cot into a day bed and a wonderful hammock frame with canopy; reflecting nature and blended those stunning one off pieces with plants and planting which mirrored the fabrics design.

This year we are a little more literal; we will be using some of our fabulous garden furniture, structures and unusual finds to inspire and compliment the space and artwork exhibited within…but no spoilers you will have to come along to The Big Summer Weekend,
Saturday 18th May + Sunday 19th May 10am - 4pm to find out what we have been up to.

We are Gill and Amanda; together we created twine… ( ) which is a small independent Garden Shop just 10 minutes from Greengallery heading towards Stirling. Today we have the pleasure of taking part in the takeover…

This year we are delighted to be collaborating with Greengallery for the third time for their Big Summer Exhibition which runs from May 18th till the end of June. Bringing a little bit of twine into Greengallery…

Launched in 2017, twine was born out of our shared love of vintage furniture, gardening, interiors and celebrating the seasons as we go thoughout the year.

We designed twine to be a store where we would both love to get lost in. A shed load of inspiration…twine offers a wide array of interesting vintage & contemporary pieces for the garden and home, enabling you to blur the boundaries between interior and garden styling.

We love the process of choosing every item and supplier which appears in twine… we especially love seeking out special finds, repurposing vintage pieces and styling spaces in unexpected ways to inspire and help you create a delightfully different home and garden.

Alongside our curated collection of vintage items, we source contemporary artisan products, including ceramics, glassware, luxurious scented candles, bath salts and remedies. Our ranges echo the fragrances and ingredients that are abundant at particular times of year to help you unwind after a long day in the garden.

Come along for a look around twine when you have satisfied yourself at Greengallery. We are located at Kippen Station, Kippen just 10 minutes along the A811 towards Stirling. We are adjacent to .
