🔐 WHEN A PAXTON NET2 INSTALLATION GOES WRONG…

This week, the TSM team have been on site putting right a Paxton Net2 access control installation originally carried out by another contractor who advertises themselves as “access control specialists”.

Despite numerous visits, the original installer had been unable to commission the new controllers onto the customer’s existing Paxton Net2 software.

TSM were called in to investigate why the system couldn’t be commissioned and establish what needed to be done.

🔎 WHAT DID WE FIND?

Following a thorough site inspection, we produced a detailed technical report identifying numerous installation defects, poor workmanship and issues affecting the safety and reliability of the system.

Unfortunately, the problems went far beyond software configuration or a few programming changes.

🛠️ THE SOLUTION?

The only option we were prepared to recommend was to remove the defective installation and reinstall the equipment correctly, before commissioning the controllers onto the customer’s existing Paxton Net2 system.

Not ideal for a customer who had already paid for a supposedly professional installation, particularly after several unsuccessful attempts to get it working.

But at TSM, we’re not prepared to put our name to an installation we can’t confidently stand behind.

Installing access control isn’t simply about connecting a few wires and getting a door to unlock.

🔐 A SMARTER WAY TO SECURE AN EXISTING ENTRANCE

Not every gate automation project needs to start with a brand-new set of gates.

For this recent TSM installation, the customer already had a perfectly usable pair of manual gates. They wanted to improve security and make access to the site easier, but also had a budget to work within.

Rather than recommending a complete replacement, we looked at how we could make the most of what was already there.

Our solution was to modify the existing gates to accommodate automation, then integrate Paxton access control and Hikvision CCTV to provide a more secure and practical entrance.

The finished installation included:

🔹 Conversion of the existing manual gates to automated operation

🔹 Paxton access control to manage who can enter the site

🔹 Hikvision CCTV to provide additional surveillance

🔹 A solution designed around the customer’s needs and available budget

The end result is exactly what the customer needed — improved security, easier access and a new lease of life for their existing gates.

It’s a good example of how we approach projects at TSM. We don’t believe in replacing equipment just for the sake of it. If we can adapt what’s already there and deliver a reliable solution that meets the customer’s requirements and budget, that’s the approach we’ll explore.
