🌿 Get to Know… Brachyglottis ‘Silver Dormouse’ 🌿

If plants could be stroked, this one would have a queue.

Meet Brachyglottis ‘Silver Dormouse’ – a beautiful evergreen shrub with velvety silver leaves that look as though they’ve been dusted with frost all year round. Soft to look at, tough in the garden!

✨ Why we love it:
• Stunning silver foliage all year round
• Evergreen – keeps its good looks through winter
• Thrives in sun and coastal gardens
• Drought tolerant once established
• Adds contrast and texture to borders and containers

📏 Grows to around 80cm x 80cm, forming a neat, compact mound of silvery foliage.

🌞 Loves a sunny spot and well-drained soil.

💨 Particularly useful in windy gardens where many plants throw a dramatic tantrum and refuse to cooperate. Looking at you, delicate bedding plants…

🤔 Fun fact: The leaves are covered in tiny silvery hairs which help protect the plant from harsh sun, drying winds and salty coastal air. Nature’s own little waterproof jacket!

🌿 Get to Know... Lavender! 🌿

If plants could talk, lavender would be the one telling everyone to calm down while attracting every bee in the postcode. 😌🐝💜

Famous for its beautiful fragrance and stunning purple flowers, lavender is a garden favourite for good reason. It looks fantastic, smells amazing and is loved by pollinators.

Top Tip: Lavender likes well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine. Give it a light trim after flowering to keep it neat and encourage healthy growth.

Fun Fact: Lavender has been grown for centuries and is often associated with relaxation and calm. Just don't tell the bees that – they're far too excited when it's in flower! 😆

🌸 Get to Know... Lupins! 🌸

If garden plants had personalities, lupins would definitely be the ones saying, "Look at me!" 😍

With their tall flower spikes and beautiful colours, lupins make a real statement in beds and borders. They're also a favourite with bees and other pollinators, making them a great choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. 🐝

Top Tip: Remove spent flower spikes to encourage more blooms and keep your plant looking its best.

"My garden is so windy the wheelie bin visits the neighbours more often than I do. What plants will survive?" 🌬️😆

If your garden gets battered by strong winds, don't despair! The secret is choosing tough plants that can cope with the conditions.

Some of our favourites include:

🌿 H**e – Evergreen, easy to grow and available in a range of sizes.

🌾 Grasses – Movement, texture and surprisingly tough.

🌿 Lavender – Loves a sunny, well-drained spot and copes well with wind.

🌸 Hardy Geraniums – Reliable, long flowering and low maintenance.

🌿 Heuchera – Great foliage colour and surprisingly resilient.

🌸 Sedum – Tough as old boots and loved by pollinators.

A few top tips:
✅ Use heavier pots where possible.
✅ Group containers together for shelter.
✅ Water regularly – wind can dry out compost surprisingly quickly.

A windy garden doesn't mean you can't have beautiful plants. You just need to choose the right ones!

The good news is… you don’t! 😆

Artificial grass doesn’t need watering, feeding, mowing or patching.

Real grass, however, is a different story!

If your lawn is looking a little tired after winter, heavy foot traffic, pets or the recent dry weather, now is a great time to give it some attention.

✔️ Patch bare spots with grass seed
✔️ Feed your lawn to encourage healthy growth
✔️ Keep newly seeded areas well watered
✔️ Repair worn areas before weeds move in
