Last week we invited SPAB Fellows and Scholars to take a close look at the ongoing roof and masonry repairs at National Trust Hardwick & Stainsby Mill with Midland Conservation Limited.

The scaffold access allowed close-up views of high-level masonry to the Hall's north elevations and their unique windows.

Last week, our Part 1 Architectural Assistants accompanied our Director, to the West Midlands Heritage 'Non-Designated Heritage Assets Learning Day'.

The event held at Wolverhampton Arts Centre featured a panel of speakers including representatives from Historic England and 'The Fox at Loxley'.

It was a brilliant opportunity to explore the term “non-designated heritage assets” in more detail, and to better understand how these spaces can be approached and transformed into thriving community assets, as highlighted in the 'The Fox at Loxley' talk.

A big thank you to West Midlands Heritage for sponsoring our students to be part of the day. It was an incredibly valuable experience and learning opportunity for our junior members of staff.

We are pleased to announce that the Uppark House and Garden (National Trust) – Essential Repairs Project has been shortlisted for the RICS UK Awards 2026, South East Region, Heritage Category.

The Grade 1 listed, 17th century National Trust property benefited from new electrical systems, new fire alarm installations, fire protection works, a new water treatment plant, and two new Biomass boilers. Work started in August 2024, and upon completion in June 2025, left the house in a better position to store and display its historic collections.

With special mention to Greendale Construction Ltd, Mann Williams, QODA Consulting and Walker Associates for their contribution to the Project Team.
