Make The Cleaner Choice! 🔥

Most headlines focus on the extremes. We agree with the destination of cleaner air but getting there is about how we reduce emissions at source. The practical route is already well-known: certified appliances, quality fuel, correct operation, and regular sweeping and servicing.

Our role during Clean Air Night is to bring this route into sharper focus – a constructive message that avoids polarisation and shows what is working right now.

The sector is continuing to evolve, and open fires are becoming a thing of the past as more households are looking for efficient ways to heat their homes with wood. Where open fires are still in use, we support a transition to a Cleaner Choice stove.

Instead of associating wood burning with “chucking some logs in a fireplace”, you need to think of a modern log burner like a car: it needs the right fuel, an annual MOT, safe operation, and a bit of TLC to work properly!

Each January, Clean Air Night prompts a renewed focus on air pollution and its impacts on health. This year’s campaign, has once again brought domestic burning into the spotlight.

Air quality is an issue that matters deeply — and reducing emissions must remain a priority. But meaningful progress depends on recognising an important truth: not all wood burning is the same, and real-world emissions are shaped by a combination of technology, fuel quality, installation, maintenance and user behaviour.

🎄 S & R Stoves will be closing on Friday 19th December for the festive period, and will reopen on Monday 5th January 2026.

🧹 If you haven't yet arranged your annual maintenance, we have a maintenance day scheduled on Wednesday 10th December for anyone still needing to get booked in.

📆 We also have a maintenance day scheduled for Thursday 8th January after the New Year.

☎️ We would also like to take this moment to politely remind customers that whilst we are open in the run up to Christmas, our opening hours are 8am-8pm. Calls received after 8pm will be responded to the following day 🙂

Something a little different...

This customer wanted to keep the shelves as a feature in their living room, but unfortunately, due to them being wood, this was not possible 😩

However, working with the customer, we came up with a solution.

After some remodelling and boarding, this was the final result.

The MI TinderBox Medium is a highly efficient, Eco-design 2022 and DEFRA-approved 5kW wood-burning stove. This stove includes a high efficiency rating (around 85%), an A+ energy rating, a large glass window with an airwash system to keep it clean, and a steel body with a cast iron door. It is suitable for use in smoke-controlled areas and is designed for wood burning only.

Custom manufactured slate slip shelves and a large rustic natural oak beam finish the look 🤌
