Let's take a look at All Saints Chancel window and wall repairs. This medieval chancel probably dates back to the late 15th Century when the church was under the care of the monks from Nostell Priory, not far from North Featherstone.

After Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries, the responsibility and tithe money for the building for its care was transferred to others and, in this instance, Christchurch, Oxford. As a result, the church in Oxford had to pay for around 37% of the repair costs to the Chancel.

Around 2013 it became apparent the render was causing heavy salting of the wall internally caused by trapped moisture behind the impervious cement. The moisture caused a continuous supply of stone dust, which required constant cleaning. Arctic Associates were consulted, and the church was advised to seek grant funding, which they successfully achieved from the National Lottery Grants for Places of Worship Scheme.

Thanks to the grant, a comprehensive repair scheme was implemented. It included the removal of the cement render, allowing an assessment of the stone wall’s condition. Due to the porous state of the stone, the probable reason for the mid-20th century render, a course of action was agreed to take down and replace the external stone under the cement and re-build in new stone.

Although some time was involved to allow for the inner surface to dry the new outer stone reduced rainwater pe*******on and restored the wall's structural integrity. Further improvements to the waterproofing of the east wall were achieved with new stone copings and a new stone hood mould, which were formed above the east window.

Close-up detail of fully restored plasterwork plaster detailing at Saltaire United Reformed Church. The colour-matching process ensured that the new paint matched the existing colour scheme. This required a bit of trial and error to ensure that adjacent bays were perfectly matched. Despite the challenge, we are delighted with the outcome, which perfectly fits the longest-surviving colour scheme.

The amount of gold in the original decoration was reduced during redecoration in the 1870s after Sir Titus Salts' death. The current decoration scheme dates from the 1950s.

Today we are highlighting the exquisite honeysuckle pattern that can be found in the restored plaster detailing at Saltaire United Reformed Church. The colour-matching process was crucial to ensure that the new paint matched the existing colour scheme. This required a bit of trial and error to ensure that adjacent bays were perfectly matched. Despite the challenge, we are delighted with the outcome, which matches the longest surviving colour scheme perfectly.

The amount of gold in the original decoration was reduced during redecoration in the 1870s after Sir Titus Salts' death. The current decoration scheme dates from the 1950s.

When the restored plaster detail within Saltaire United Reformed Church was completed, paint colour-matching was needed to ensure the new matched the existing colour. This did take a bit of trial and error time to ensure the best match was achieved with adjacent bays. No mean feat, but we are pleased with the result, which matches the longest surviving colour scheme.

The original had more gold but this was reduced when it was redecorated around 1870’s after Sir Titus Salts's death. The current scheme dates from the 1950’s.
