💪 The Longest Friday on Record

After a 31-hour shift with just 1 hour of sleep, we’ve wrapped up what might just be the longest Friday we’ve ever had at Kirby Landscapes and Construction Ltd.

We pushed through to get two important jobs over the line — finishing a driveway ready for tarmac next week and replacing a rotted timber floor for a local shopkeeper. We worked through the night so we could complete it while the shop was closed and had it all wrapped up by 7:15am. Just as I was ready to head home, I had a property call-out to attend, then it was straight back to the shop to put a nice float finish on the concrete. I must really enjoy what I do, because somehow I still found time to get the truck washed before calling it a day!

Massive credit to Damien Cannell , Liam Bailey and Harvey Fryer and also Craig Turner for supplying the concrete at 6am this morning!! Your early start was much appreciated and your excellent service as always 👏🏻 I couldn’t have done it without your help lads. Proper team effort, solid work, and a great result at the end of a very long day.

All of this has been made even more challenging with my van being off the road for the past four weeks. It's been in and out of the mechanics and now with the main dealer while they try to get to the bottom of the issue. Running the business without a van has been tough enough and to make things worse, Damien’s van also broke down. Big shout out to Dan Warner for stepping in and lending me his truck to help us get through another week. It’s support like that that keeps everything moving when it matters most.

It’s this kind of commitment that makes all the difference! Right I'm off to bed 😴

And here’s the final result of the balcony we previously shared and yet again we have created another amazing space 😁

We’ve gone with a glass balustrade using spigot base fixings, giving it a clean, floating glass look, no handrail needed. Paired it with a cedar privacy screen and matching cladding under the flat bathroom roof to tie everything together with a warm, modern finish.

This one’s at our own home, but it reflects the same attention to detail and finish we bring to every project.

🔸We’ve just installed a bespoke cedar batten privacy screen on the balcony, using high-quality cedar treated with Osmo oil. The warm tones and sleek lines not only provide a stylish, modern finish but also tie in perfectly with the existing cedar cladding beneath the flat round bathroom roof, creating a seamless, unified look.

🔸This is just the beginning. The next stage will be the installation of a frameless glass balustrade, allowing uninterrupted views while maintaining the clean, contemporary aesthetic.

🔸A lovely transformation to this property in Kirby Muxloe this week, out with the old lawn, hedge and path and replaced with a new Total Stone Grigio Porcelain path which we then machine cut a black porcelain border to really make the path stand out and then finished with a newly laid thick lawn which includes a block paved mow edge to make mowing the lawn a breeze.

Another Stunning Transformation in Kirby Muxloe!

We’ve just completed a full garage conversion, turning an unused, cold, and damp space into something truly special.

This project included:

Installation of new foul drainage and an inspection chamber

Direct access from the master bedroom into the new layout, now featuring:

A stylish en-suite (completed by another contractor)

A dressing room with a full wardrobe wall

A compact utility room to discreetly house the washing machine and tumble dryer

The result? A far more functional and luxurious space that fits seamlessly into the home.

Outside, we removed the tired old patios and replaced them with:

A sleek block paved area to the rear of the bungalow

A beautiful Kandla Grey Sandstone patio at the bottom of the garden – perfect for enjoying the warmer months ahead!

Nice little job completed in Rutland last week, my favourite part of Leicestershire!

This is the Fourth property we have worked on for this client and he is thrilled with the transformation of this tired area. The two concrete pads will house a steam room and an ice bath. We also extended some Yorkstone paving and built a new step, a 6ft feather board fence was fitted to separate the oil tank area. New lawns were laid and a beautiful Lavender border installed, Lavender was also planted either side of the path which will look great when flowering 🪻🪻🪻🪻🪻

Today, I had the chance to visit one of my old customers, an elderly lady whose garden I Landscaped over 5 years ago. Sadly, her husband passed away three weeks ago, and she's been struggling to keep up with things around the house, especially her pond, which was losing water. She was worried about her late husband’s fish, so I stopped by to help today.

As I got there she came outside excited to say hello but as she closed the front door she realised she had accidentally locked herself out and was understandably upset. I let her use my phone to call family for a spare key, and while waiting, she shared how hard it's been managing the heating system since her husband always handled that. So I fixed her pond and then I sat with her and showed her how to use her Nest thermostat, I spent about 1½ hours at her house and made sure she felt comfortable before I left. When she asked how much she owed me, I told her not to worry—I was just happy to help.

Helping an old customer through a difficult moment felt far more important than any payment. Sometimes, it’s not about the money—it’s about being there for someone who’s going through a tough time and offering support where you can.

I wasn't going to share what happened today but I felt it was important to see that a bit of kindness can go a long way and made me feel good especially after hearing her sad news.
