Typical calming beautiful sounds from my workshop - the paring back to the shoulder lines of the houndstooth dovetails using freshly sharpened Lie Nielsen chisels. 🙂

Houndstooth dovetails.

More houndstooth dovetails, this time on the two table extensions, to compliment the four sets on the main table.

Progress is picking up on this fine dining table. The extensions will soon be ready to glue together. 🙂

More creepies (low stools) finished.

These beautiful handcrafted creepies have been made from Scottish Cherry and English Oak.

The legs have angled wedged through mortice and tenons for greater strength and stability. These stools look stunning in any location in the house and now available from The Shetland Artisan Shop or by contacting myself directly.🙂

Stunning English Walnut.

Sunny day on Shetland today, so I went through nearly 40cuft. of English Walnut for some future projects.😉

Cutting the planks down to the cutting lists ready to second season in the corner of the workshop.

Now I’m feeling better it’s back to the Maple and Purpleheart dining set. 🤗

Finlay’s cutting boards.

Finlay has been busy making these beautiful heart shaped cutting boards which he has hand shaped using my spokeshaves.

Made from some stunning English Walnut, and finished with food safe oil. 🙂

More creepies…

The angled mortices have been hand cut on another 5 creepies (low wooden stools). Now the trench between each pair of mortices is hand routed out to accommodate the haunch between the tenons.

These creepies are being made from English Oak and Scottish Cherry. 🙂

The finished creepie stool.

This creepie is made from Scottish Cherry, with angled, wedged through mortice and tenoned legs for superior strength and rigidity, that are seen on the top.

My creepies are not just screwed together, hiding the fixings with round wooden pellets on top or biscuit jointed together.

I currently have 5 more in the making.🙂

Creepies (low stools)

As I can’t do anything strenuous at the moment, I’m finishing off some creepies I started earlier this year.

Planing the end grain of the angled, wedged through mortice and tenons on this Scottish Cherry is so easy with a very sharp mitre plane.

Dining table joints.

The four sets of angled houndstooth dovetails for the apron of the table have been cleaned up.

This will provide a unique and distinctive decoration to the dining table as well as acting as a very strong joint to the apron.🙂

Houndstooth dovetail reveal.

Under my direct supervision, Finlay has planed up the faces of my houndstooth dovetails, putting into action everything I’ve taught him, as I’ve recently had surgery and unable to do any physical work for a number of weeks.

With the help of family, the workshop can keep moving, with myself in supervisory role.

Many thanks to family, especially Finlay for his skills. 🤗

Glue up time.

All four sets of angled houndstooth dovetails have now been cut, and the glue up begins.

Angled pads were fixed to the ends of the side aprons to prevent the cramps from slipping off as they are tightened. Once tightened the diagonals were checked for squareness.

Now just wait for it to dry before revealing those angled houndstooth dovetails. 🙂

Dovetails.

One set of the angled houndstooth dovetails all cut out. Three more corners to go.

The Purpleheart is like rock and blunts the chisels extremely quickly, but the hard work and results are so well worth it. 🙂
