We currently have some availability at Lewes Community Kitchen for cooks, caterers and community projects wanting to hire a fantastic commercial kitchen for occasional or regular use.
The kitchen is fully equipped and a lovely space to work from.
We offer subsidised hire fees for community projects, charities and social enterprises. We also support start-up and fledgling food businesses by offering affordable and flexible workspace as well as business support and mentoring.

I walked down the main road in Lewes today and the number of empty shops is staggering. I was hoping to source some ingredients for one of my low cost cookery workshops from somewhere other that the supermarkets. The market traders who generally have a stall a couple of days a week are not open today and the excellent organic whole food shop is too costly for this project. With food inflation at 19% and property and rental prices unaffordable for most people, I wonder what the future holds for low income people who want to eat well.

The government all but given up on food policies that might ensure food security. Supermarkets are now the only line of defence when it comes to food security and their motives are certainly profit driven.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility to create a community owned and run greengrocers in a town like this? One that puts people and provenance before profit.
