The garden may be yawning into life with its first fragile sounds and scents - but the soil is still too cold to sow. Instead, spend time planning for your gardening year ahead.

Chit early potatoes, winter prune fruit trees and prepare veg beds. Bare roots fruits can still be planted, and sweet peas and tender annuals and vegetables can be sown on a warm windowsill in preparation for summer.

Plus, look out for:
🐸Frogs, toads and newts emerging from hibernation to spawn in garden ponds.
🐝Queen bumblebees foraging for early nectar from crocuses, lungwort and snowdrops.
πŸ’›Brimstone butterflies venturing out to feed on primroses.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Imbolc and celtic new year πŸŒ±πŸ’«

It's an exciting time to be making plans and preparations for our gardens.

As it's been a long while since we've posted, here are a few highlights from recent projects.

1-4. Angela Fox's Nature Gardens in Cuckfield
5-7. Courtyard garden in central Brighton
8-9. Traditionally joined green Oak decking (prior to clean up and oils)

Happy beltane folks 🌿

Here's a little feature to celebrate the blossom of our beloved Hawthorn trees in full bloom throughout Sussex right now

These beautiful flowers are significant in ancient folklore as we celebrate May Day and the transition from Spring to Summer

They support hundreds of wildlife species throughout the year, from pollinators to small mamals and a wide variety birds

We're delighted to have included Hawthorn in the woodland zone of the Angela Fox Nature Gardens in Cuckfield which will soon be open to the public

Today we are planting another zone in the gardens which is a large herbaceous meadow consisting of 26 different plant species

Can't wait to share the results. Happy May Day everyone πŸ’«

We recently made and installed these bespoke gate and panels, constructed from sustainably sourced local Oak.

The style is true to the original design and joinery methods, with cast iron hardware also restored. Finished with natural oils that will soon settle in tone, with regular care these timbers will last many years.

As an additional note, the vibrant plant that stands out in image 5 is a Ceonothus Puget Blue. The flowers of these evergreens are wonderful for various species of bee, butterfly and other pollinating insects.
