Client feedback.

I have recently received my first Google reviews.

As the sole point of contact for all my clients, this milestone is particularly meaningful.

My focus has always been to deliver bespoke designs alongside a level of service that genuinely sets me apart.

Thank you to my clients for your trust and for taking the time to share your experience.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and to celebrate some highlights from the year.

⭐️ Awards.
A building for which I was the Project Architect during the construction phase at Allan Joyce Architects in Nottingham, was highly commended nationally as the best purpose built accommodation in the UK at the LABC Awards.

⭐️ Client referrals.
I was recommended to two new clients by existing ones and I am proud to have both new projects in the office.

⭐️ Unconditional approvals.
Several projects gained planning and building control approval without conditions this year, meaning my clients could start building without delay.

⭐️ Conservation
A National Lottery funded heritage project received planning permission and listed building consent

⭐️ Town and country projects.
I was appointed to design a substantial multi-generational family home on a rural site and to upgrade a three-storey Grade II listed building in a town centre Conservation Area.

⭐️ Teaching.
This summer students exhibited at Lincoln Cathedral and the RIBA President opened the degree show at The University of Nottingham where I hold the post of Assistant Professor.
I also contributed to design reviews at Nottingham Trent University and I was delighted to see many of those students win awards that are recognised globally, as well as been featured in the leading design journal Dezeen.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that has helped me and my business progress during the year and to my fantastic clients for trusting me with their projects.
Hello to all my new followers as well!.

Image is one of David Hockney’s ipad paintings currently on display at the Annely Juda Fine Art gallery in London until 28th February as part of the exhibition ‘Some Very, Very, Very New Paintings Not Yet Shown in Paris’. He is a personal favourite of mine and the new moon drawings and perspective collages were highlights for me.

The office will close today for the festive period and re-open on January 5th 2026.

Merry Christmas!.

‘Flat’ exhibition at Primary, Nottingham.

Exploring the theme of ‘flatness’, I was especially drawn to the architectural qualities of work by Lynn Fulton and Craig Fisher and how their pieces responded to the building.

The building itself was also interesting. Previously a Victorian school, it has been converted into gallery and studio spaces by Architects Pricegore and won the 2025 RIBA East Midlands Building of the Year Award.
The building is also home to the Small Food Bakery and Beam coffee and bookshop where I genuinely had the best chocolate brownie and coffee of my life!.

This is the last week of the current exhibition and I definitely recommend a visit both for this and everything else on offer. It feels like a very special place. Thanks for the suggestion and company GP.

Six contemporary coastal homes, Gibraltar Point nature reserve, Lincolnshire.

Locally quarried Lincolnshire limestone and durable hardwood reflect the colours of this special landscape and help to ‘ground’ the buildings in their setting. In contrast, the upper level is glazed and conceived as a lightweight pavilion which will blend into and reflect the expansive ‘Lincolnshire skies’ the area is so well known for.

Living and sleeping accommodation is raised above ground level to enable uninterrupted views across the nature reserve and out to sea.
Balconies at first floor level are set into deep reveals which will provide solar shading. Lined in timber, vertical screens will provide privacy between the bedrooms.
The main living spaces on the top floor will have access to a full-length terrace from which to enjoy the dramatic sun rises of this unspoilt location.

Both individual plots and the full site are currently for sale with Adam Lascelles - By Design Homes Lincolnshire.

For self-builders, this is a rare opportunity to purchase a unique plot with the principle of building a contemporary home already established.

For a developer, this five acre site is one of a very small number in the county that could be developed with minor design changes secured via a section 73 agreement and not requiring the usual 10% uplift in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

For and on behalf of the Robert Doughty Consultancy.
Images are my own work to assist potential purchasers.

Garth Lane, Grimsby.

Back in 2004 when I was 20, in my first job with Hodson Architects Ltd after studying at The Grimsby Institute, this was the first project I worked on.

I remember spending many weeks measuring and drawing all these listed buildings and then drawing up the proposed designs over several more. It was an incredible project to be part of and a formative part of my training.

I'm so pleased this has finally happened on such a prominent site in my home town as there has been many attempts to do something over the years.

From both a heritage and sustainability perspective, it's great to see that more than 20 years later, the principle of re-using the existing buildings (which wasn't so prevalent back then), has been kept by the new Architects John Puttick Associates.

The icing on the cake is that the buildings are now home to the important work of Horizon Youth Zone - a charity dedicated to supporting North East Lincolnshire’s young people.

Amazing stuff!.

Multi-generational living in rural Lincolnshire.

I’m delighted to have been appointed to design a new family home for two self-builders.
Whilst I’ve designed bespoke homes before in previous employments, this one feels really special as it will be my first since I set up my own company.

There are two former agricultural buildings on this 2 acre site. The highest quality of the two will be re-used to create a large workshop. The other will be demolished to make way for the new house and its structural frame and brickwork will be re-used, wherever possible.

Exterior spaces including a kitchen garden, orchard and wildflower meadow will enhance the biodiversity of the site and create a beautiful landscaped setting for family life.

As my clients are self-builders, I will be working closely with them to ensure they can build as much as possible themselves. I will also be managing a team of consultants to take the stress away and to ensure that the project runs as smoothly as possible.

Creative graduate showcase at The Truman Brewery, London.

If you’re in London this weekend and enjoy art and design, or are looking to employ a graduate, then drop by The Trumen Brewery to see a snapshot of the best creative work from Universities outside of London, as part of Free Range 2025.

Free Range was created in 2000 to give graduating students from outside the capital, in areas where the creative community may not have been as strong, the opportunity for their work to be seen by a wider audience.

Nottingham Trent University will have a showcase in Block F, level 1, T3.B, where I have been a guest reviewer on the interior architecture and design course during this past academic year. Their model-making and drawing skills are outstanding, so be sure to take a look at their work.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 11th to 13th July, 11am - 6pm. A private view will be held tonight from 6pm which you can RSVP for via: [email protected].

Architecture and Built Environment end of year show 2025, University of Nottingham.

On Thursday 19th June at 6pm, the President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) will open the Architecture and Built Environment end of year show at the University of Nottingham.

This academic year I’ve had the pleasure of teaching alongside one of the key Architects of the renowned Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh. Having previously worked and lived in the city, it's been really nice to exchange stories about one of my favourite cities in the world.

Our theme in the studio has been ‘adaptive’ architecture and our students have designed outstanding projects which span a broad range of building types and scales for sites across Nottingham.

Please do join us on Thursday to celebrate the work of our students and to hear from Muyiwa Oki, President of the RIBA.
