Division 2: Worthing MvF 1 - 2 Basingstoke Res

So the Southern League 11’s was kicked off yesterday at the Sussex County FA ground as Worthing MvF hosted Basingstoke MvF Reserves.

The game was a tight affair in blisteringly hot conditions. Both teams struggled to get a foothold in the game for the opening 10 minutes before a long ball from Basingstoke’s Barney Stupples put striker Darryl Cooper through on goal which he neatly slotted home for the first ever Southern League goal!

Just after the half hour mark and Basingstoke’s Darryl was involved again as he was felled in the box by Worthing’s Mark Stuckey to give away a penalty. The subsequent penalty was then placed past Worthing keeper Kevin Stubbs by Basingstoke’s joint manager Steve Beaumont to double their lead!

Worthing then hit back before the break, James Poole picking up the ball in midfield and feeding the ball into Tom Yates on the right hand side. Tom having broke past Basingstoke’s back line then slotted the ball into keeper Nate Carr’s net at the near post!

The second half was tight again with both teams trying to cope with the rising heat. A nervy finish to the game brought nothing more than a yellow card for Worthing’s Christian Ratis. Full time and a away day victory for the travelling Basingstoke Reserves.
