An L shaped garden covering about 5 hectares on very sandy soil. When the new owners took over it was very overgrown with knee high grass, rhododendrons that had not been managed for decades, a buried sunken garden, unmanaged woodland with far too many sweet chestnuts and about 2000 metres of overgrown hedges of holly, laurel, leylandii and mixed native hedging. There was also a rotting timber and corrugated iron double garage which had been converted to a music studio. The single entrance to the drive was too small and parking space was very limited. The project involved redesigning the access to create a drive with entrance and exit and parking for half a dozen cars, demolition of the existing timber and corrugated iron 'studio' and building a spacious new double garage and potting shed, thinning and managing the woodland, hedges, lawns and rhododendrons, restoring the sunken garden, restoring an old pond as a wildlife pond and planting a new orchard and wildflower meadow around it and the existing fruit cage

This garden was so overgrown that it took hours to cut through to the gate to the rear and the front was knee high rough grass. It took weeks to clear. Brambles, 3 metres high, filled almost the entire garden. Two partially collapsed sheds, a stack of 72 paving slabs, a pallet of brick paviours, a stack of 30 sleepers and various garden tables and chairs were completely hidden.

As its name suggests this garden was on a spring line and remained very wet throughout the year. Initially it was very overgrown with huge hedges, lots of large invasive Pendulous Sedge, Loosestrife and Yellow Flag Iris and had to be cleared in order to reveal the layout.

This was a very small garden, just 5m x 5m/ The house was semi detached, on a steep slope with about 25 steps down from the road through the front garden to the front door. There was no access for vehicles or machinery to the back garden, which was surrounded by trees and a tall laurel hedge in neighbouring gardens so all materials and waste were carried in and out by hand.
The client brief was minimal maintenance, mainly foliage, a seating area and a small shed. The colour for the walls was agreed after my initial design was presented and accepted.

This was a complete redesign and construction project.
