Each winter we talk about pruning roses. Most I see haven’t been pruned hard enough; leaving weak stems on and generally leaving it too busy. With a proper prune like these had, there will be lots of new strong growth holding lots of beautiful blooms. If you have roses in your garden, make sure you take the time to stop and enjoy them whilst they are looking this best this summer.

Latest hanging basket installation at Newington Temple, off Bold St in Liverpool city centre.

These baskets are huge so work well against the grand facade of the old pub. Hopefully brightening up a little corner of town.

I love watching the birds around the garden (is that just something that comes with age?), when I spotted some blue t**s in this garden was amazed to see where they were nesting.

Will give them some space for the next few weeks whilst they raise their young and hopefully they’ll be back in future years.

Love finding suppliers who just do one thing, and do it brilliantly.

Delivered by Cheryl are based on Cronton Farm and do the most amazing hanging baskets for very reasonable prices. I’ve got some that I’ll be fitting in some pubs and bars in town this week, but she’s also open to the public and the baskets are looking their best now and ready to go, so get down this weekend to get yours.

(No I’m not getting paid, I paid full price for my baskets, just supporting a small business)

Make sure you follow along to see these baskets in situ this weekend.

Tiny courtyard makeover.

This tiny courtyard is too small to sit in or use, but it needed some love as it’s overlooked from the kitchen in the house and had been a bit neglected.

There was already a climbing rose, but we needed some more. I fitted new better supports on the walls to tie the rose in to, added two star jasmine as some shade tolerant astrantias in the bottom to fill it out.

I supplied some nice big pots for the new plants, large pots are really important as it means they will hold more water and not dry out as quickly, which is important coming in to summer.

New sleeper edge for this customer’s bed.

This customer loves her garden but is struggling more and more with it over time. This bed originally had a stone edge to it, but it was falling apart and crumbling in to the path. Replaced with this sturdy sleepers, now up to her to decide if she wants them treating or staining to finish them off.

Let’s talk about herbs.

Often we grow them in little pots or a small bed to the side, when I face they can be beautiful and mixed in with our ornamental plants. This customers sage bushes have been here for years (and are taking over really), but I love each year when they flower, as do all of the bees. They generally don’t flower as long as their cultivated cousins, but when they also have their uses in the kitchen, surely we can make space for them.
