Dogs are the only non-primate animal known to consistently look to human faces for emotional information.
They've been living alongside humans for at least 15,000 years and have evolved specific cognitive tools to read us. They track our gaze, respond to our tone of voice, and distinguish happy faces from angry ones β even in photographs.
One study showed that dogs' heart rates synchronized with their owners' during stressful events, suggesting they don't just observe our emotions β they physically share them.
The dog at your feet understands more about your emotional state than most people you interact with daily. π
