Often we give a quote and customers say is it worth repairing ?well that is only a question you can answer because it’s what it is worth to you, most mechanical clocks not all don’t have great value so the customers decision is based on sentimental value as often many of these clocks have been in the same family for many years sometimes a few hundred years.
All my quotes include a full and very comprehensive service of the clock movement, not just an oil job and hope for the best a full strip down springs bushing pinion work if it’s needed and most of the time it is , its included no fuss it gets done.
My thinking is the clock has run for many years so no reason why it can not again.
And back to pricing, I do often repair valuable clocks and to me the hourly rate is just the same as the more humble timepiece so prices are the same, the value does not govern the cost, I always itemise my work clearly.

Picton Clock, as you probably know my name is John Burnell I own and run Clock Repairs Merseyside I live in the Wavertree area of Liverpool have been approached and I offered my Services to repair the clock and do remedial work to the staircase etc, but that was weeks ago , not heard anything since, don’t understand why ????? My feelings are this seems to be the case with many of our historical clocks buildings etc.

A short video , in one of my workshops. A few clock movements on test all clocks are left on test for 2 weeks, it gives me chance to check for any hidden problems and in this process I can adjust and regulate the movement.

POST N0 3) And the 3rd post is a few pictures of the dial, this has had the old silvering removed so its now a brass dial, it will be re re silvered and any loss on the numerals will be sorted out, then it will get a few coats of clear coat to protect the finish.
All work is done by hand using good old fashioned elbow grease, i will post a video of the finished clock and have a chat giving some history etc.
