In the workshop today is a very tired Hoyer 12 string acoustic that I was given last weekend. Let's see if I can make it sing again.

The 12 string lives! New truss rod, some lighter strings (10s) and tuned a step down. This is going to need a neck reset down the line but this will more than do for now. Sounds fantastic. Fender F-5-12.

This 12 string is in getting a replacement truss rod as the old one broke.

I keep forgetting to post updates. So here's a slightly unusual Fender acoustic that's just left the workshop. I'd never met a guitar with such a high action (8mm at the 12th fret) and grubby fret board. Action lowered, fret board cleaned and oiled, everything polished up and a rather cool wood scratch plate added. Plays an absolute treat now.

It's not everyday I get to work on a genuine Jazzmaster. This sounds absolutely monster! I was never quite sure of the styling on these but having serviced it, and sorted some dodgy frets, I'm quite taken with it. Anyhow, back to its owner it goes 🙄

Latest guitar restoration project. This is an SG copy, probably mid 70s, of Korean manufacture. No brand name but likely made by Kay guitars. Unfortunately the truss rod was missing it's adjustment nut, so it's fret board off and a new truss rod to be fitted before rebuild. Interestingly this also had a steel reinforcement bar. The humbuckers on this guitar are actually disguised single coil pickups. Some of these pseudo humbuckers sound pretty good. I'll let you know.

In the shop this weekend an Eko Ranger of indeterminate age. Frets levelled and dressed, saddle replaced with a compensated tusq saddle, bespoke 3ply scratch plate made and fitted. New strings action lowered. In addition machine heads cleaned and gun oiled. This will be looking for a new home once I've finished having a play 😉

Take a retro Squier strat (3 screw neck plate) and refinish in seafoam green. The guitar started life black, then in am orange marble effect (see rear cover for an idea of the colour) and then natural wood with a selection of random pickups.
With its new paint, some official Squier pickups (circa 2005) wired in, it sounds marvellous. Having played it I can see why the owner wanted it spruced up. It felt really great to play.

Latest restoration project is a late 60s/ mid 70s Eko Ranger. There's more lacquer cracks than you can shake a stick at, and something odd going on near the neck join. These guitars have a great tone and are solidly built with their unusual bolt on necks, but are renowned for a thick lacquer that cracks with age.

My latest guitar build in Red Maranti wood with a Matt black finish and some very tasty Seymour Duncan 'Distortion Mayhem' humbuckers went to it's new home today. This is not as heavy as a standard LP so won't do your back in. Super low action.
I cheated a little buying in the body and neck as I don't currently have the tooling to make a carved top, which is why I normally make flat bodies.
