We had a truly inspiring visit to our Paragraph eco-house, the Walled Garden, currently under construction. The breathable walls are amazing, the red cedar shingle roof is stunning and the promise of what is yet to come is very exciting. Many thanks to our dedicated client and his team for bringing our concept to life. Looking forward to visiting again when the project is nearing completion! We recently had an interesting morning in Norwich Record Office investigating the of a fascinating property. Looking at maps, sales brochures and aerial photographs is illuminating, and will feed into our Heritage Impact Assessment.

Seeing a project through to completion is always a delight. Our latest blog post explores the progression of ‘The Grove’ in North Norfolk: stripping back the listed building to upgrade the thermal fabric, reconfiguring the internal layout, and enhancing the relationship with the garden through a new garden room extension. The results are a gift for our clients, their family and future occupants.

East Anglia’s beautiful historic villages nestle in a gently undulating rural landscape. There’s so much still to explore and to learn from studying building techniques of the past. We recently enjoyed a visit to Castle Acre, with it’s stunning ruins of both a Norman Castle and a significant Priory.

Building at Elizabeth Quay in Perth is a year round artistic endeavour as local with architectural leanings demonstrate their skills. With Spring in the air as Christmas comes to the Antipodes, these do seem more appropriate than Gingerbread houses.

Looking forward to summer days...

When we design solutions for our residential clients, whether we are designing eco houses from the ground up or whether we are reconfiguring and refurbishing existing buildings, we think about the project from a holistic viewpoint. Questions we ask ourselves and engage our clients to consider are:

What are their needs as a family? How would they like to use the house? How do they envisage using the different rooms and spaces? Where are they likely to spend most of their time and what will they be doing in these spaces? How does the house work from an orientation viewpoint as well as at different times of the year? Which sustainable solutions might work well in this particular location, or for this particular family?

These types of questions lead us all into working cohesively so that together we can design the right solutions for every individual client’s needs. Together we find workable solutions turning houses into homes that work in harmony with their residents all year round.
