Sent via Our clients approached us at the start of 2022 to explore the possibility of remodelling and extending their 1960s cottage within the medieval village of Lindfield, West Sussex.
An easterly extension, traditionally clad in hung clay tiles, provides additional living space. The tall ceiling rises towards a roof light that has been aligned with the top of the historic wall of Lindfield House in order to maximise daylight. The proportions and character have created a room that is contrasting to the existing living spaces.
A new entrance and external courtyard have been placed at the junction between the house and the new extension in order to allow greenery and daylight deep into the plan.
Finally, the central stair was relocated externally of the building footprint to provide long axial views through the ground floor that are bound by the historic wall of Lindfield House.
