Well that didn’t go to plan. ⛈️

We started our soil moisture experiment yesterday and then the British weather stepped in with a thunderstorm last night. So yesterday’s readings are out the window.

However — it’s been a hot one today and the rest of the week is still looking warm. So we are testing again this evening and we’re carrying on regardless.

Real data, real conditions, and apparently real British weather throwing a spanner in the works. 😅

Check back this evening for the updated readings. 🌿

EXPERIMENT NO: 3478 😉😂🤣

This garden hasn’t been watered since Friday, over a fairly hot weekend! And no these aren’t the sexy instagrammable images you’ve come to know and love us for but they do illustrate a clear point ….

With temperatures forecast to hit 32 degrees and over this week we tested the soil moisture across four different spots last night just to see where things stood.

Still holding. No water needed yet.

That’s what healthy soil with good organic matter does. It retains moisture far better than you’d expect, even going into a warm week like this one.

We are going to test again each evening and share the readings as the week goes on. Real numbers, real conditions, just to see how long it actually holds.

Look after your soil and your soil will look after you. 💪🌿

Quick one for anyone who’s ever pulled a mushroom out of their lawn thinking something was wrong.

It wasn’t wrong. It was working.

Mushrooms appear above the surface when the fungal network underground — called mycelium — is healthy and established. That network is one of the most important things happening in your soil. It connects roots, moves nutrients around and helps everything above ground thrive.

We’ve been feeding the soil in our yard organically for the past year. No chemicals, just giving the ground a varied diet. These started appearing recently and honestly we couldn’t be happier about it.

Leave them where they are. Your soil is telling you something good. 🍄🌿

Quick one — we’ve just added something to the shop that a few of you have been asking about.

This is the Sealey 5L pressure sprayer. It’s what the Yard Bros community use to apply Lawn Juice and Soil Snacks. Even coverage, easy to pump up, long lance so you’re not hunched over the lawn for half an hour.

If you’ve been using a watering can it works — but this makes the whole job quicker and more consistent. Now available on yardbros.com alongside the products.

Something Fred noticed in his garden this year that we think is worth sharing.

He’s been using the YardBros products consistently alongside a few of his own experiments — egg shells, tea leaves, organic kitchen scraps going back into the soil. No chemicals. Just feeding the ground properly and seeing what happens.

What happened was this. Bees. Damselflies. Wildlife that simply wasn’t there before.

They didn’t arrive because Fred put out a welcome mat. They arrived because the soil ecosystem underneath got healthy enough to support them. That’s how biology works — fix the foundation and everything above it follows.

We started this brand talking about lawns. But what we’re really talking about is soil. And healthy soil doesn’t just give you better grass. It gives you this. 🌿

Has anyone else seen people recommending washing up liquid for dry lawns? 👀

We understand why it sounds logical. But detergent doesn’t just sit on the surface — it gets into the soil and damages the living ecosystem underneath. The microbes, the fungi, the biological activity that your grass depends on. Washing up liquid doesn’t discriminate. It just kills.

Your lawn deserves better than that.

We’ve written the full explanation over on Dirt Talk — what actually happens to your soil when you reach for the wrong thing, and what to do instead.

When everyone has an opinion, but your experience, tonnes of research, and passion lead you down a slightly different rabbit hole and the results absolutely speak for themselves.

Time to debunk the myths, time to return power to the everyday gardener. Let’s start talking about how we can improve our soil quality to reap the rewards across our gardens, whether they be ornamental, functional, or anything in between. Let’s support our garden micro biome to achieve long lasting and sustainable results 💪💪

Your lawn isn’t dying of thirst. Your soil’s refusing to drink.

When it gets this hot, soil goes hydrophobic. Water beads up, rolls off, and most of what you put down never reaches the roots. You’re not underwatering, your soil’s just stopped letting it in.

Hydrate breaks the surface tension so water actually soaks down to where it matters. Less waste, deeper roots, lawn back to looking like a lawn.
