Painting MDF cabinets requires proper preparation since the material is porous and can absorb paint unevenly. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Surface Preparation

Cleaning: Wipe down the cabinets with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt.

Degreasing: Use a degreaser (such as alcohol solution or TSP).

Sanding:

If the MDF is bare, sand it with 120-180 grit sandpaper to smooth the surface.

If the MDF is already painted or laminated, lightly sand it with 220 grit sandpaper to improve adhesion.

Dust Removal: Wipe with a damp cloth or use compressed air.

2. Priming (Essential Step!)

MDF is highly absorbent, so primer is a must.

Use a shellac-based primer (e.g., Zinsser BIN) or adhesion primer.

Apply 2 coats with a roller or spray gun, sanding lightly with 320 grit sandpaper between coats.

3. Painting
