Take the post out of a corner and the roof above it still has to be carried by something.
That something is a cantilever, built from a frame of steel beams tying the walls together, which makes it a structural decision rather than a glazing one.
A beam over a room is normally designed to Span/360, but doors that fold and roll need Span/500 or 5 mm, whichever is smaller.
Five millimetres of drop is enough to pinch the tracks, stop the locks reaching their keeps and leave the seals on a corner never meeting at all.
The beam also has to land on concrete padstones, because brickwork on its own is usually too soft to take the load at the bearings.
Even then the panel has its own physics, because a triple-glazed leaf can weigh over 100 kg and only stays square once the fitter packs it and lets the glass work as a brace.
