Albania’s 700,000 mushroom bunkers may be the worst idea in history. Enver Hoxha, it’s dictator after WWII, was growing paranoid of invasion, and put his economically crippled country to building one bunker for every four people.
The problem was, no one wanted to invade the tiny country. And if they had, the bunkers wouldn’t have stopped them. How could the soldiers (actually civilians) hold up in there? How would the soldiers get bullets, or food, or orders? They only served to make Albanian people more paranoid themselves, and then to put Albania’s final nail in the coffin. Honestly, look it up.
