I had so much more to say about RHS Chelsea and the images don’t match my take out about biodiversity and sustainability. So I’ll link a reel my more detailed thoughts from Chelsea.

One of the biggest secrets to growing The Pilgrim beautifully is to train the stems outwards at roughly 45 degrees instead of straight up. It encourages flowering shoots all along the stems, so you get far more blooms rather than just flowers at the top. My lower stems are trained around the side of Daisy Cottage while I’ve taken 5 strong stems to the top and along the front.

Plant from autumn to early spring in rich soil, about 30cm away from a wall, and use horizontal wires or a sturdy support to tie stems in gently as they grow.

When pruning, keep the main framework and simply cut back the smaller flowering side shoots in late winter. The more you train and spread the rose, the more spectacular the display becomes.

If you are buying a potted rose be sure to add water well and deep.

Just breathe, for many in the UK there’s a long hot weekend ahead. Take a moment and just chill.

If you can do that in the garden or in the park, or you seek shade in woodlands it’s time for a reset.

One of the lovely things about Hydrangea petiolaris flowers is that what most people think are the petals actually aren’t the real flowers at all.

Those larger creamy-white “petals” around the outside are sterile bracts, almost like decorative leaflets designed to attract pollinators and make the flower head more visible. The true flowers are the tiny ones clustered in the centre. They’re much smaller, more delicate and don’t have the big showy petals.

If you look closely at a climbing hydrangea in bloom, you’ll see the middle packed with these tiny fertile flowers, often covered in bees and pollinators, while the larger outer bracts create that soft lacecap effect we all recognise. It’s one of those plants that rewards you when you stop and really study it up close.

Behind every interview is a consummate professional… and this time it was Golda Rosheuvel. Best known worldwide as the commanding and glamorous Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Golda brought warmth, intelligence and real generosity to our chat. A brilliant actress with an incredible stage and screen presence.. we caught up on the Pots & Pithoi stand, which is one of my absolute favourite suppliers of authentic quality pottery. see the full interview on my platform by going to this link
